Hard copy CHP cards like a DL!

Didn't know where to post this so mods do whatever.

A LOT of folks have complained for quite a while about the paper permits that need to be laminated (that continually fall apart) in Virginia.

I previously lived in Hanover County and got the standard paper issued card. First time I've had to renew in Dinwiddie County and they send me this pretty hard card in color just like a DL (sans photo).

Many other counties are still issuing paper.

I was also pleasantly surprised that it took 1 week and 1 day to receive it since I reaplied in person.


This may not sound like a big deal to some folks who have been getting hard copies forever or who have constitutional carry, but for us folks that have had to deal with paper its a blessing.

Anyone else in VA that is getting issued a hard copy post and let us know about it.

While I can't relate in regards to my CHP I definitely can when it comes to my hunting license and tags. Congratulations!

I wish the cards could be combined into 1 card. In Florida if I wanna go fishing, I need to have my drivers license to get there, my CWP since I'll be carrying and the actual fishing license.

No change in Alexandria. Still the paper card.
Wish they would do a plastic card.

Got my first plastic card 2 or 3 years ago. It's a great improvement over those all too fragile paper ones. I may have heard that most issuing counties in most states are planning to go to the plastic ones, ( eventually).

Here in Texas they look just like our Drivers License, generally the same picture.

I never thought it was that big a deal , but it does save me a trip to a office supply store . Did they raise the price any ? The office store charges about .25 cents .

I prefer the paper cards. The little ID sized laminating cards are very inexpensive at Wal-mart, Target, or any office supply store, and you get several in a pack for your renewals every 5 years. I can then scan my ID, and have an electronic copy. That way if I lose or forget it, I can always print out another free of charge, travel, and wait. I personally hope they keep the paper copies. It's probably cheaper, easier, and faster to get permits mailed out that way.

I laminated my old Loudoun County paper permit. My current one is a proper plastic card.
