Love mine. Bought the 4” Champion for my daughter because her birthday is 1-19-11, so how could I not? Liked it so much I got the 5” for myself. Couldn’t be happier with them although I don’t shoot the Champion too much. DD60E6CC-D0FE-4291-90CC-E87DD9B4A4F6.jpeg 7F83B99C-71F5-4221-9A98-DFBBA6EE7479.jpeg
They are both 9mm and an absolute joy to shoot. The 5” is incredibly accurate as well. That’s .72” freehand.

Really like my SA 1911.

Can’t think of any in their lineup that I don’t like except maybe for the aesthetics of the Emissary.

No hate, but not everyone want to hang crap off a target pistol.

The Range Officer line-up changed a whole lot since the model was introduced.

You have the correct understanding of what the Range Officer is and it should serve you well. Your gun, as pictured, was the original design and it was designed as a competition gun. I spent a whole bunch of key strokes across a few gun forums trying to talk folks out of the Range Officer and into some other model in the Springfield line-up, like the Loaded or TRP, because I knew folks weren't really interested in a competition gun, and weren't going to like the adjustable sights. I lost count of the number of folks that ended up with the sights like forum member Bo shows on his gun at post #10.

I'm currently spending my efforts trying to talk folks out of the Beretta 92X Performance and 92X Performance Defensive. They are a shiny new model, but they are game guns. If it is a game gun you want, and I think most of these shoppers don't, they will be great. However, if you think you're getting a carry gun, there are better options.

Congratulations on your Range Officer.

Mine is all range use, a very enjoyable, affordable gun to shoot a lot of rounds through along with the more limited expensive defensive rounds in my home and carry guns. I simply LIKE it a lot.

IMHO:
Fantastic 1911 for the $$$. Bought a 5" ro/45acp back in 2011. After the initial break in I did ladder testing with the h&g #68 swc and bullseye powder. Didn't take long to find a target load. Not hand/cherry picked target by any means, nothing more then the test target used testing ammo that day. 10-shot group @ 50ft with iron sights rested on a cardboard box with a towel rolled up.

Liked the ro/45acp so much I bought a ro chambered in 9mm in 2013. Same box/towel setup @ 50ft testing the ro/9mm, 10-shot group.

I shot my ro's box stock/as they came from the factory for years.

Getting older, eyes aren't what they used to be so I put burris fast fire III's on both ro's.

Was doing testing with the ro chambered in 45acp/fast fire III this year using clays powder and the H&G #68, a cramer hb swc and a 200gr cast hp. 5-shot groups & 50ft.

The 4.3gr of clays and all 3 bullets did extremely well. The top right target was me shooting 5 shots in 25 seconds 1 handed shooting that 200gr bullet (1" group bottom right target).

SHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!

Don’t be showing/ telling everybody about how good that load of 4.0-4.3gr of Clays with a 200-205gr bullet shoots! Also that it does 800-825fps!
That is/was my secret winning PPC load for the .45acp.

Lee copy of H&G 68 6-cavity mold at .452” lubed with SPG....
It’ll cut an X, where a 9mm will be a 10, or a 10, where a 9 will be a 9!

Target model: First day was a real pleasure with my 9mm with sub 4" groups at 15 & 20 yrds.

to see talk of 4" groups at 15/20 yards being something to talk about grieves me... its been a thing for years but I grew up shooting bullseye and 1911's were talked about in sub 1" 50 yards as target models...

Well, I'm 70 and think in terms of defensive shooting not bullseye now. I used to do 22/250 in 1" groups at 200 yards when younger, 2" groups at 25 yrds .38/357 offhand no rest. If my current shooting grieves you, I'm sorry.

Any of you folks have trouble with the RO’s chamber (9 MM) being to tight. I have had two of the 9’s, five inch and had trouble with rounds not chambering and being stuck. Won’t buy another.

Picked up a 5" 9mm RO in 2015 for $649 from Academy. Had ejection problems. SA fixed it up gave me a few extra mags and I had them put on a fiber optic front. I planned on selling it because I have some really nice 1911's that I love but that thing is a tack driver! It's not my favorite to look at but I love shooting it.
