Ok guys, from time to time I've read articles posted at www.defensereview.com. I always see this ad for "No recoil retrofit firearm insert" from www.stealthir.com over on the left side. Here's the link:

http://www.stealthir.com/no-recoil/index.html

Now, I have no doubt this is either a fraud or a joke - all it takes is a minute or two looking around the rest of the sight before it all looks worse than something Gecko45 would think up (original Mall Ninja, anyone?)

What does suprise me is to see a banner for it on what I had previously thought was a legitimate site, and, despite searching, I haven't been able to find much discussion on it either way.

My question is, does anybody know anything about this company, StealthIR, or their too-good-to-be-true looking products (like this one)? I've gotta say, this looks like about the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen - all of their products look absurd... I just haven't ever heard anybody else say so.

Also, am I making a mistake by occasionaly perusing www.defensereview.com? Maybe that sight doesn't have a reputation to uphold?

Thanks and I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys. I'm hoping somebody's got the scoop on this one.

Also Mods if this isn't the right place for this post I apologize, tried my best to make it fit where I thought it would go best...

I'm with ya. How can an item which weighs less than half of a cartridge reduce recoil by that much? Sorry, but you can't beat Sir Isaac Newton's physical laws.

Sauces,

Absolutely. Flash animations or GIFS of 2 guns allegedly shooting side by side don't convince me of anything... and even if they are real, notice how low the left gun (in the back) is being held on the grip - no wonder it recoils more sharply (if these are even real guns shooting real ammunition, which I'm not willing to grant them even that). Call me a skeptic but I just can't accept this... who allows them to advertise on their site though? I would be ashamed of my reputation to have their wares peddled on any site I owned... unless there's something I'm missing?

Hatfried -

My favorite part is the photo captioned "Deadly sea gorilla when with hellfire" - LOL!!!!!!:p

Now, tell me.. How long do you think it took him to cut/past that square of earth over the picture of the guy? poor use of MS paint even by my standards...

That site wreaks of BS, what are they trying to do?

I call BS on the whole site.
Note the muscles bulging in the shooters right wrest & hand.

Bet his left wrest isn't bulging out like that!

It's probably one of those light recoil spring with a built in buffer dealies. They do reduce muzzle flip, but you probably compromise functioning. Especially given that, at least in my opinion, 99% of modern autopistols are undersprung.

Pretty simple physics. A heavier spring transfers more of the recoil to the frame (and your hand) as the slide moves back, so you get more muzzle rise during that time. The tradeoff is the lighter spring gives you a lot more of a "snap" when the slide hits the frame, hence the built in buffer to soften that.

So then you get excessive rearward slide velocity, and a heavier spring or buffer that basically gives the slide a boot in the butt as it rebounds forward (at excessive velocity to begin with). Maybe it's just me, but I found that with my G23, when the stock recoil spring got broken in (maybe a couple hundred rounds and a thousand more dry cycles), I would have to limp-wrist the gun to get it to function. Holding it correctly would get nosedive jam about once in every 50 rounds. Replacing the recoil spring with a 22 pound one (stock is 18) solved the problem entirely (and limp-wristing won't induce a jam).

edit: Actually, yeah, if you look at the pics, you'll notice that one of the ejected casings is quite a bit further along than the other. The unmodified gun has pretty typical ejection, directly to the side, while the one with the magic thing ejects a pretty nice-looking head-bonker almost straight back, especially apparent in the video. Classic sign of too light a recoil spring.

The "stealth" gunboat is a trip. I also like the 37% increase in range & "punch" of 120mm canon "without increase in gun powder". -"Live demonstraton on 45 caliber handgun can be arranged"

He also invented a DNA laser reader in 1972! And is a master of Nanotech!

What a guy! Brilliant! What other wonders is he cooking-up in his hi-tech "Labraty"?

It has got to be a joke. Check out the family enjoying a day out in the diving boat.

But, yes, the deadly sea gorilla is one of the most awesome things I have ever seen (or not seen).
