A few years ago I ordered in a new Steyr M40-A1. I really liked the pistol, it's just that I've never been a fan of the 10mm Kurz. So, I re-homed it. Problem was, by the time I got around to ordering a replacement in 9mm, they were apparently no longer being imported and were nigh impossible to find. I told myself if I ever found one whilst running around to my various watering holes I'd pick it up and take her home. That was about three years ago. I hadn't seen one until today...
I snuck out of the office for my occasional pilgrimage to Cabelas, about 50 miles away. After getting the various items on my list I stopped by the pistol cases, and low and behold, right there in the first case was a lonely M9-A1 for $399. I immediately spoke up for her.
Despite an obvious fair amount of handling, once detail stripped, it appears she's barely been shot.
I guess I'll be trying my hand at stippling the grip portion of the frame. I'm not exactly sure why, but I simply can't stomach the though of a pistol with the word "Mannlicher" proudly displayed on the side.
Anyone do any custom work on their M9? I'd forgotten how funky the trapezoid sights look. I suppose I can get used to them again, otherwise I'll me making a set of plain black sights. Looks like some sort of grip gap filler would be nice too, and maybe a real metal (probably aluminum) guide rod in stead of this plastic thing.
