strange PM, could this be the ATF?

Not at all uncommon.

I used to sell a lot of gun parts on eBay before they became the gun anti-Christ.

I've had people from all over the world begging me to sell & ship them stuff that is illegal to export out of the country, and to countries we are actively fighting!

Your 1. 2. 3. response is the proper course of action!
Do it!

I would simply reply

"Don't drop the soap, the proper authorities have been notified" :neener:

If he is for real, it may open his eyes to what consequences are at stake.
And if he's not for real, then you just got to thumb your nose at all of the anti's that think we are all just a bunch of retarded lunatics.

^^ so he's a computer nerd.

Also, don't assume that because a screen name pops up on a google search that it's the same person. I've tried to register at a number of different sites and forums with this nickname (one I try to use as often as I can) and it's already been taken. Just because the handle matches doesn't mean it's the same person.

Report it to the forum but also to LE in CA. Let them investigate and bust him. If he's a cop he'll likely get his butt kicked for attempting illegal entrapment.

Not just a computer nerd, but it looks like he's a gamer, into first-person shooter games. Probably lives at home in his parent's basement, works part-time at the mall and has never had a girlfriend.

I received a telephone call recently an hour or so after I received a shipment of shotgun & pistol ammunition. The caller identified himself by name but not any agency and wanted to know why I was buying large quantities of ammo. With three double Vodka Tonics under my belt I suggested the part of my body he could kiss and hung up. I have never heard another word from the guy.

A/K/A Tommy Chong is a "documentary" on Tommy Chong's federal bust. They used a very similar setup on there. A guy kept calling and trying to convince Tommy's bong company to sell him bongs in some locality where it is illegal to sell glassware like that.

I thought it was entrapment, but apparently not...Tommy went to federal prison.

"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."

And there's a whole lot of stupid out there.

Doesn't seem likely, the ATF has no jurisdiction over enforcing a state law. Might be a california law enforcement agent though.

You're right, BATF has no interest. It's Arnold you need to worry about.

I had something simular like this happen to me a few months ago on another board. I posted my Cobray PM-11 (knock-offs of the MACs) w/pics for sale and had some responses. One was from a guy who said he knew nothing of guns and in particular the PM-11. He then sent me several P.M.s asking the following:
Him:
-Does it fire from a closed or open bolt?
-Does it sometimes go full auto?
-You mentioned it comes with a barrel extention/fake suppressor. Does it reduce the noise and if so, what did you do to it to make it work?
-I live in MD and can drive down to VA to buy it from you.
Me:
-Fires from the closed bolt.
-Never fires full auto.
-Fake suppressor does not work...no modifications.
-You cannot buy directly from me since this is a pistol and you are not a VA resident. It would have to go through an FFL in MD.
Him:
-I did not know we had to live in the same state for FTF purchase. I am still interested. What would it take to get you to sell me the gun?

I stopped responding to his PMs after this.

I hate to repeat something that's been said a bunch of times before...but here goes... It's really scary how many of these we're seeing crop up all of a sudden. I think gun owners need to be on our toes because either bad guys are spending more time online or cops are pushing harder to get us. I know which way I'm voting on that one.

We ARE seeing more of these. It's not cops.

It's new, ignorant gun owners who don't know the laws. To them, "full auto conversion" and "The laws probably aren't very serious" mentalities are the order of the day. They don't obey the speed limit, why should they obey firearms laws? They don't understand that they're two VERY different beasts.

More people are buying guns, so more people asking how to do illegal things with guns should be no surprise.

I've had people reply to my Gunbroker and AuctionArms listings asking me to do those kinds of things. Not only that, but I've been asked to do face-to-face deals on handguns with people that are clearly not residents of my state. Just say no and then disconnect.

If it smells fishy, walk away. Don't look for a loophole or contorted interpretation of the law. Just walk.

Nobody has mentioned the obvious, an "investigative report" for one of the MSM. They'll troll the sites, asking people to do something, and then make it up to be a rampant problem.

The three statements were the best answer.
