No news articles on it yet, as far as I know.

A friend of a friend was killed recently(maybe today or last night) by a handgun. The kid was a student at the same school me and my friend go to. They were at a party and there was definitely alcohol was involved. I don't know any details other than the gun discharged and he was struck in the head.

Horrible story, but mixing guns and alcohol is never smart.

My friend is pretty torn up about it right now. It was her best friend, I'm told.

EDIT: If you'd like to comment on this, please read the thread first.

i'm very sorry to hear about your friend's passing. sounds like a series of poor choices was made.

please don't blame the gun though. he wasn't killed by a gun. he was killed by person. the gun didn't discharge, it was discharged by a person.

i feel for the late man's family. they are in my thoughts.

I've searched every news agency I know and haven't seen anything. Keep us posted.

Sorry for the loss.

My condolences for your loss

Always a tough thing and a terrible tragedy. But in the interest of clear understanding, I must comment on your choice of words. Understand that I mean no disrespect in your time of sorrow, but your friend's friend was not killed by a gun. He was killed with a gun.

It is a small difference in words, but a huge difference in meaning. The gun did nothing on it's own. It was used by a person, who decided to pull the trigger. A person is responsible, the gun was just the method used.

I understand that, I wasn't blaming the gun at all. I realize it's an inanimate object and that guns just don't "go off". That's what I told the person who informed me of the accident. Poor sentence structure and wording, that's all.

Keep the family in your prayers, if you could.

I'm sorry for your loss, that's a horrible thing to have to go through for all involved.
For future reference though (especially when you are hearing reports from the media) you need to dig one step deeper. Guns don't "go off" without someone pulling the trigger and "accidently" almost always means "negligently". It's most likely your friend's friend was killed by someone who was acting stupid and pulled the trigger on a loaded gun, whether intentional or negligent.
I've been around guns all my life and if I had a penny for everytime a gun just "went off"...well, I'd be pennyless.

"...killed recently(maybe today or last night) by a handgun..." No he wasn't. Handguns are inanimate objects. They can't do anything by themselves.

Man! Tex told you all that he mis-used the words killed by a handgun. Can you just move on now. This is not a war of words!

TexKettering you probably should edit your post. It might help keep these 'simple minded' people from heckling you.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

I think there have been about 2 people I went to school with killed by guns in the past couple years. Along with one who used a semi-auto AK to raid someones house and shoot the people inside. The thing about these kids is they are all young black males. I knew them all decently well and they were the type of kids you would never image of doing or being chaught up in these things. I think I remember hearing about PA having the highest black on black crime rate in the U.S.

The first kids name is Rashad Washington and he was killed in a drive by. Him and this person got into a argument and the kid pulled out a bb gun and shot him in the face. Rashad ran inside of his house grabbed a knife and stabbed the kid several times. He was arrested and put in juvenile lock up for a year and as soon as he got out the damn kid he stabbed shot him. I knew him for long time :cuss:. We played football together for about 4 years until he moved and it made me sick to my stomach as soon as I heard it happened.

The second ones name was Eric Martin and he was in the National Guard. Eric served 18 months in Iraq only to come home and get shot in the back by some damn coward in front of his house. It took me a while to get over him dieing, but as they say life goes on. We also played football together for a while, he was a couple years older than me.

The third one was Ceasar Trice. He was a quiet kid and we both were on the wrestling team for a year or two together, he also moved. Ceasar had a pretty bad temper and spent a decent amount of his school career on suspension. He moved one year and I never heard anything more about him. Until one day I turn on the news and seen what he did. Of course as usual the news claimed he used a Full-Auto Assualt Death Maching AK-47, of course it turned out to be semi. He was on the run for a couple of months until the cops chaught him in Detriot on his way to jump the border over into Canada.

I by no means lived in the City either, I live in a typical suburb and never in a million years would I have predicted stuff like this would be happening to the people I grew up with.

Haven't seen anything on it, couldn't find anything on local news either.

This is my biggest worry on having guns in my house at college. Know there is gonna be parties, know there is gonna be alcohol. Also know I'm not dumb enough to play with guns when I've been drinking, but on the other hand, I do know that people do wander around houses when drunk. I can lock enough doors and trigger locks and safe doors, but it still isn't comforting

My deepest condolences for the loss of your friend. Unfortunately when loaded guns are left laying around this sort of accident happens. I recall years ago I attended an after work party and the host was showing off his .44 magnum. After he put it down and left the room a buddy of mine picked it up and opened the cylinder, discovered it was loaded, emptied the cylinder and put it back down. A bit later, one of the girls picked it up, totally clueless, and pointed it at someone accross the room. At that moment the host re-entered the room. As his jaw dropped to the floor and his eyes opened wide as saucers she pulled the trigger - click.

Jimminy Christmas! *chills!

Sorry to hear about this Tex. Keep us posted.

Also sorry this board is full of *******s. A lot of people seem to feel better about themselves if they can find "fault" in someone else, be it a choice of words or what have you.

Target Sports, Royal Oak, MI

The reason that my last trip to Target Sports will forever be the last time that I shop at Target Sports, in Royal Oak, MI.

Recently, I stopped at Target, where I used to buy firearms, and where I had range membership. Now, understand they have ceiling mirrors, as well as security cameras so they can see who is doing what.

As I walked back from the restroom, I noted via that same ceiling mirror that the worker at the cash register had picked up a pistol off of the rental shelf. As I rounded the corner, he quickly raised the pistol and painted me with the laser...I call it assualt with a firearm, not a joke.

As I continued to walk back to the range, my very sole and simple comment to him was, "I hope that thing is unloaded!"

I packed my bag, left and never returned for use the remainder of my membership. Since then, I have never returned. So, idiots are everywhere. Target has lost a very good customer...a very good customer!

Dang doc, target employee would have had a return laser pointed between his eyes very quickly had I been there...

That is serious stuff, I don't care if it is a dummy gun you don't point it at an unsuspecting person, especially with a laser mounted!

Tex, sorry about your loss, I'll keep you and the family in my prayers

I agree fully. That is why I went back and edited the post to add in "Target Sports, Royal Oak, MI" into the title so that hopefully it can be found in Google, et al searches. I guess people really should know that there are fools working there.

Besides, as my Grandfather used to say, "It's the empty gun that kills". That is the relationship to this thread...he thought it was empty. One never knows for fact!
