Dear THR:
I would like you invite your opinion on whether the Taurus quality has improved, stayed same or gotten worse over the past five years. I ask this because there have been many threads on various forms debating the quality of the Taurus auto loaders. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether all these internet discussions made any difference with Taurus management.

Thank you

I've never had a problem with any of the 3 Taurus guns I've bought in that time period. This includes 2 autoloaders and a revolver. You're going to get a bunch of bashers in here I'm sure, but I can only give you my personal experience.

I chose "stayed the same" because you only gave a window of five years. Had you given one of ten or more, I probably would have voted that their quality has likely improved.

I have a PT1911 AL that is accurate enough and works all the time...my only issues with it were my thumb making contact with the thumb safety while shooting causing an occasional bobble...

I've owned 4 taurus products 3 autos, and 1 lever gun which I currently have. I never had the slightest bit if an issue with any of them.

I can't answer. I have owned four Taurus handguns, all but one for more than five years. All have given perfect service. I still have three. Traded one for something I wanted more.

My biggest problem with Taurus is getting parts. I've tried to buy small replacement parts from them and was denied because of their lifetime warranty. I don't like having to spend $30 on shipping and waiting 3-4 weeks, to get a $2 spring replaced. That's freakin ridiculous. I think I will avoid Taurus from now on. Never much of a quality issue to speak of, just difficulty in dealing with their customer service.

I think Mark Kresser will turn that lack of customer service around. I have talked to him on the phone when he was with another company and I thought he was very customer oriented.

Jesse Duff has won some major matches with her Taurus sponsor's guns. I don't remember any Taurus guns being used in the major matches before. To me it appears that Taurus is making a big move it gain market share and customer service will be the first place to start IMO.

I don't see me trading any my Glocks, M&Ps, or my XDM for a Taurus semi auto, but you never know.

I've had no problems out of any of the three that I own. (PT-99, 709 Slim, 740 Slim). In fact, the PT-99 has been my most consistent and reliable performer since I bought it in the 80s.

Fair warning... if this turns zealous on either side of the opinion, like Taurus threads tend to do, it will get immediately closed. So far so good though!

I guess I shouldn't say it's difficulty in dealing with their CS, their CS reps were friendly and at least attempted to be helpful. But the fact that they wanted me to spend money to ship a gun, to have one of their 'smiths replace a simple spring was not an attractive proposition to me. A week or two in shipping, up to 2 weeks (what I was told) before someone could work on it, and the they said they would have to ship it back to a local FFL. With me paying shipping both ways and paying a transfer fee. Would likely cost me $50+ for a $2 spring that I could install myself in literally less than 5 minutes. Instead of spending that money, wasting time shipping and doing more paperwork, it was a better option for me to sell it at a loss and buy a different gun. A lifetime warranty sounds like a good deal, but sometimes it just isn't worth it. If they decide to change some of their policies, which I doubt they will, I might decide to buy another Taurus. I made sure they knew I wouldn't be buying another product from them and made my reasoning clear. They didn't seem to care.

Just sent a PT 99 back to them. Its an older model in mint shape. It is accurate enough ,if it would shoot a full magazine without failure to load or stove pipe upon extraction. Lucky to get 3 rounds to work properly. We'll see when it gets back. Not bashing them, just alittle disappointing. I'm voting stayed the same.

They have improved in my experience. I have owned 2 of their newer semiautos and both have been flawless and good quality overall.

I have owned 3...had problems with the last 2 and I will not have problems with another as I am done with their complete lack of QC. So, I said it has gotten worse.

The ONLY Taurus experience that I have is a 357 magnum that my wife and I rented at the range. The screw that holds in the cylinder walked out and the cylinder fell off.

This was a heavily used range gun, so maybe that was the problem. Suffice it to say, when we bought our first wheel gun, it was the flawless Ruger that we fired, and not the Taurus.
