I have no experience with Taurus and I only have Ruger wheelguns , so I have a chance to trade a glock 23 for a Taurus tracker 357 6.5 inch barrel ,
what is the opinion on this Taurus or should I stick with Ruger
Thanks

Even if it's doesn't have an issue, a GP100 or 686 will have better fit and finish and a nicer trigger.

If it DOES have an issue, Taurus MIGHT fix it and if they do, they'll probably charge you for it. Ruger won't, they'll just quietly take care of you. If you're a Ruger guy, I'd stick with what you know.

The tracker is actually considered a good gun by many. Taurus is big issue is qc but since it’s used can you meet the guy to try it out if fou can run a few rounds through it and all checks out go for it.

There are good Taurus's ... (Taurii ?) ; Ruger C.S. is excellent , Taurus C.S. is , well ... , Glock is not a precious commodity. I'd be tempted to take a flyer on that trade , but that's coming from a mostly revolver guy who is not too keen on Glock.

Let us know.

Underline not intentional , don't know how to get rid of it!

I'd make the trade. Glocks are easily-replaceable. If I didn't like the Taurus, I could recoup.

BTW, I didn't even know Taurus made the Tracker in .357. I've only seen it in .44 and half that. I do own four Taurus revolvers, including a 66 in .357, that I've had since new in 1987. I also own a Ruger Police Service Six in that caliber, but I inherited that one.

I've owned 4 Taurus revolvers, but I didnt keep any of them. I got light strikes with my .22, got bored with the .410, and never really felt like the .357 was built super well. They were ok, but I always felt like I wished I was holding a Ruger instead.

I wouldn't say that it's a bad trade at all if you want to do it. I'd rather keep the Glock, if it were me.

I wouldn't trade my 4" Taurus Tracker 41 Mag for 3 Glock 23s.:neener:
Seriously, most Glocks are replaceable, while good 41 Mags of any flavor are hard to find. And my Taurus 41 Mag is a good one.;)
I don't remember when I got it, but it has never failed me, it's as accurate (or "precise" if you prefer) as any of my revolvers, and I've treated it pretty darn rough over the years. It was my backpacking revolver back in the days before I got so old and fat that a one-mile hike with a 60lb backpack on my back would put me in the hospital (or the morgue).:uhoh:
At any rate, I originally bought a Taurus revolver for backpacking because I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a gun that I knew I was going to get dirty and probably put a few dings in, yet it had to be dependable. My Taurus has met those criteria - it's gotten dirty, it has dings, yet it always works.
By the way, I have a Taurus 32 H&R snubby revolver that I carry everyday when I'm working outside, especially way out on the back part of our property. And I bought it for the same reasons - it was relatively inexpensive, it gets dirty, it gets dings, yet it always works.
The only problem I have with my Taurus snubby is the short sight radius and my 70 year old eyes aren't all that compatible, so I don't shoot it all that well. But it's there, tucked out of the way behind my right hip, making me feel comfortable even though it's only a .32, and I can't shoot a 3-shot, 4" group any farther away that 15ft with it.;)

Thanks for all the reply’s I have decided to pass on the trade , I think I will stick to Ruger revolvers for now the ones I have are functionally flawless and they hold a fair resale value Down the road should I want to sale them or if my kids want to sale or trade them when I am taking a dirt nap.

I love my tracker in .44 mag. 500 rounds through it and no misfires. The ports make it a very controllable flip free recoil. The stock grips suck, but Hogue makes grips for them which are much better than the factory “ribber” grips.

I know that the OP already made his decision, but if anyone else is still considering a Tracker...

I owned the 22lr/22mag "convertible" version. The DA trigger wasn't very good. However, the SA trigger was nice and it was a very accurate revolver. I shot many hundreds of rounds through it and never had any problems. I would still own it, but once I got my K22 Masterpiece I realized there was really no point in keeping it. I got about half of "used retail" price for it in trade at the LGS, which is about what the owner gives on any trade-in.

Waveski; you click on the U icon again so it isn't highlighted anymore; if you're on your phone, you're on your own. JO JO, I understand your choice; Taurus needs to learn how to do customer service like Ruger's, which is exemplary. My own (and my son's) experiences with Taurus guns has been nothing but good, but I also know that is not the case for everybody.

Most Taurus guns are good guns. However many are not. Dealing with Taurus CS is usually a nightmare.
This comes from working in firearms sales for a quarter of a century.
Personally I would never trade a good working firearm of any flavor for anything made by Taurus.

I had a Taurus tracker mod617(iirc) 7-shot. I really liked it. Shot it quite a bit. Carried it some out West fly fishing. Took at least one deer with it.
It developed timing issues and i traded it off.

Go for it, but understand that the tracker triggers are horrendous from the factory. If you trade, plan on replacing the springs in the gun with a set from one of the many spring shops that sell them as kits. Last set I bought was around $40. That totally changes the feel of the action, and smooths up the trigger immensely. While your inside, you can stone any rough surfaces smooth and end up with a revolver that is as nice as any other revolver around.

I have owned a few Taurus revolvers...
689- best revolver I ever owned. Miss it.
85ch- crazy deal. Didn’t like DAO so I flipped it and made $50
405- another incredible gun, but short barrel wasn’t for me. Traded heads up for the next Taurus
M44- really really nice gun. Didn’t like feeding a 44 though
M327- great pocket gun and a good shooter. Will get a set of springs and wood grips soon. It’s a keeper.

And yes I am a revolver guy. I currently own S&W, Colt, Taurus, H&R, Ruger, EMF, Arminius, and RG. I have owned MANY more, but I honestly can say that the only revolvers that I miss are the Taurus 689 and the m44.

Make the trade. Glocks are common and with the flexing frame and freely floating barrel they are nowhere near as inherently accurate as a revolver. Ruger DA guns are investment cast which is weak, but they make up for that in added material which means you end up with a gun that’s heavier than it really has to be. The best thing to do would be find a S&W from the 70s, but those are spendy, a Taurus from the 90s is second best. Trackers are next in line, and are probably the Best Buy I the market right now when you look at purchase price, reliability, and accuracy.

I have a Stainless Tracker .357. Nice gun. I like my old Ruger a little better but nothing wrong with the Tracker

I have two Taurus revolvers. A 992 Tracker .22/.22Mag with 6.5" barrel and a M66 7shot .357 with 4" barrel. I have never had a problem with either one of them and they are good shooter. I rarely ever shoot DA and I am comfortable with the SA triggers. I have heard a lot of bad reviews on Taurus customer service, so I have no plans to purchase another Taurus in the future.
