Teen on tape wields AK-47

The only problem with the tape is that, other than some vandalism, they don't actual break any laws that I'm aware of...

Them AK's look scary, and the fireworks... sorry, explosives... are loud. But it all looks legal.

Turns out he had a tear gas grenade in his car, leading to his arrest.

CNN played that clip and mentioned his 600k bond at least twice an hour for six hours today before finally getting around to mentioning what actual crime he had committed. CNN had convicted him for the heinous crime of shooting a semiauto AK on video, and owning a bullet-resistant vest.

I would appreciate a little more news from them, and a little less alarmist right-think.

Well, I guess my daughter dressed as a Teletubbie holding my unloaded, un-mag'd Saiga would make the bed wetters poop with sheer terror! or maybe just her day glow orange plastic revolver CCW'd in her pretty green purse would?

It's punk idiots like that who make defending RKBA more difficult than it needs to be. Those kinds of videos help to forge a link between gun ownership and reckless and potentially dangerous behavior.

What was he charged with there?

The only thing that I have read was the charge related to him stealing the news paper box. That is a steep bail for stealing a paper box!

The explosives were probably tannerite, which last time I checked was completely legal. He probably was wearing "body armor" at school because the school denied him the most effective means of self protection...

Seems like any other video I've seen on youtube...a gun loving american having fun exercising his rights :)

Only crime I can see is the newspaper thing, and even then from the tape we saw it's not known if the people in the vid even stole it or if it was already out in the woods :D

Then this would be the kid that was arrested for wearing body armor to school? I still question the legality of the arrest and the subsequent search.

*sigh*

The incredulity in the announcer's voice. "...with what appear to be high-power AK-47s"

And what, exactly, is a LOW power AK?

He is guilty of being scary to the sheep and not much else. Possibly theft of that paper box, but there's no proof of that.

If their gonna toss the kid in jail for stupidity, there's a long line of people ahead of him that are guilty.

well, ima guess he did SOMETHING wrong...
what i duno and time/court will show it...
what is sad is the poor publicity that was given to responsible gun owners.

The kid is a bit of a maniac, but aside from stealing the newspaper thingy he hasn't done anything illegal.
He should be referred for psychiatric aid.

OMG body armor!!! That's horrifying! I hope they arrest all those kids with the bulletproof backpacks now and their parents for buying them.
I couldn't see anything wrong unless he did steal the newspaper machine. Bail is a tad steep for that. 15 year old flight risk for petty theft?

If I knew bail for stealing a bunch of newspapers would be half a million dollars, I would have reconsidered everything that I did in high school that was any fun at all; my bond would have been several hundred million dollars after a typical weekend. Granted, that kid is odd, but they didn't say anything about him planning anything dangerous, and I'm sure they would have if they found a list with names on it or something. They are trying so, so very hard to make this kid more evil than he really is. Also, I'd like to know what the "strange behavior" the police spoke of was referring to. Man, I hate CNN about as much as I hate the BBC; 3 minutes of "news", followed by at least 10 minutes of commercials.

Looks like your typical hell-raising teen. They're trying to brand him a psychopathic murderer for owning a semi-auto rifle. Nowhere in the video does it show any indication on him wanting to use the rifle for anything but plinking.

If he had saran-wrapped your car, we'd have folks gloatingly tellingly us how, as long as he did it at night, you could shoot him in Texas. Then we'd have a bunch more chiming in about how they wish their own state had similar laws.
This kid is a dufus. Some portion of what he did was legal, no doubt. I'm still in no hurry to start calling him a martyr and making him the 2A posterchild du jour. YM, as always, MV.

This kid might not be the brightest, but I don't see where he did anything to deserve the kind of media attention or bail that he got. Unless there is something that the media has not picked up on I don't view him as much of a threat to anyone.

This kid is a dufus.
Most of them are (Including myself at that age).:D

His main crime was getting caught, plus was a dumba$$ for videotaping his stupidity (Hey ya'll, watch this!!!!).

Pretty stiff bail for conspiracy to saran-wrap autos and shootin' up a paper rack that didn't belong to him, tho!:what:

$605,000 bond for stealing a paper vending machine?

The only weapons related crime I can see was his horrible offhand stance with the AK.

The best replies are the ones that go something like, "Besides doing that <illegal thing>, he didn't do anything illegal.

After Columbine, et al, do you really expect the authorities to just shrug off this jerk?

One idiot can't screw it up for everyone else without alot of other idiots willing to project those traits onto everyone else afterwards.
