Just saw this one.

When it came out in the theaters, even though it had rave reviews, I had serious doubts.

I was dead wrong.

This movie is well done in every way. The story and morals within rival anything I've seen.

If you haven't seen it, don't bother renting it. Go buy it. My Dad bought it today, and I'll be buying my copy shortly, just to assure I'll have it when I move out.

What are you doing on the internet? Go buy it. :D

I totally agree! This is a movie that you will love if you are 8 or 80. How many movies can you say that about! And it treats guns like fun, not pieces of evil. Good values, morals and messages all the way. Plus, the acting is incredible. Duvall alone is worth the price of the movie.

Yep, 100% agree.

Just bought it and watched it last nite, including the movie theater, 4 times viewing. This will be ranked up there as one of my picks just line many of John Waynes... and others....

I totally loved Robert Duvall's part, both as an old man and a young man in flashbacks. His performance blew me away! The scene in the bar with the punks was priceless!

Agree with all the above that this is a great movie.

When you get the DVD be sure to watch the deleted scenes. It turns out that Garth (Michael Caine) was responding to ads and inviting salesmen to call at the brothers' house. When Walt (the kid) found out...

Walt: "You're inviting salesmen here so you can shoot at them!?"

Garth: "Well, a man needs a hobby."

I liked the movie a lot. Really felt bad when Lion was not allowed to finish her job. Lots of Unsafe gun handleing in todays PC world.

What a coincidink....I just rented this movie yesterday.....it is a great movie....for the whole family too......like an "old time" movie.....good values and a great story..minimal swearing....shotguns....what's not to love???I may buy this one too....

Thanks for the heads up on this movie. I don't watch many movies but I'm gonns see this one. Thanks again.:)

In the future.... This may be looked at like "It's a wonderful life" When it first came out, if was kind of a flop, and then it grew legs quite a few years later. My vote is Second Hand Lions will grow legs as well....

Rent it or Buy it, who cares.... Just watch it.... The DVD out takes are worth watching. But, view the movie first... Then the extra stuff will really give it some background.

Enjoy...

Hmm, I'll have to reconsider seeing this I guess. When it came out I heard that it was filled with syrupy emotionalism. I'll have to check it out.

DorGunR,
Yep, you can get it in VHS. However it will not have the other stuff the DVD does. The DVD is double sided, so you can get a couple more hours of stuff about the movie and the process they went through to make the film. Thay also show you some different versions of scenes that they wanted to use but cut for various reasons. I held out buying a DVD player till spring of last year, growing trend.... just go to the video store and see how few VHS are now being made. Can kind of pisses you off when you think about all the money you may already have in VHS, Beta..... The DVD's are just a bit more durable in the long run.....

Enjoy the flick....

Well I guess it's time to buy a DVD player, and speaking of Beta, I bought a Beta recorder/player in 1980 because I thought it was much better than VHS, and if I remember correctly the price was right around $1,000, then Sony had to get greedy so everything went VHS, and I then had to buy VHS and I've bought 3 or four since then.........oh well, on to DVD.:p

Saturday night we went to Costco and got the large pizza and the DVD "Second Hand Lions". It made a great evening at our daughter and SIL's home. Even our 5 yearold grandson liked it.

The scene where everybody, armed to the teeth, including Michael Caine carrying a rifle with fixed bayonet, enters the corn field looking for the lion, was priceless. In real life it would have been a potential major disaster, but after all folks this is just a movie.

Theflashbacks as seen through the kids eyes were really great, like watching an old Errol Flynn film. Some of the antics were really great and the cast of animals including 5 dogs and a pig were also good.

Get it in DVD and enjoy the extra deleted scenes and ending as well as choice of widescreen and full screen.

This movie will become an all time favorite is my thinking.

BTW, as we prepared to go back home the grandson comes up and trys to lift the DVD box out of my hand, saying "Leave the movie here grandpa!"

I'm going to buy it for my folks, that's the only way I can be sure they see it.

Favorite line;

The total shock & disbelief of
"No TV??":what:
