4,000 posts regarding firearms, of all things! Hopefully I wasn't so long-winded during those threads that I didn't learn something. Actually, I know I learned a lot from the gang here at THR, and I hope I was able to pass along something useful, too. I may have locked horns with some, but I also know I made some pleasant acquaintances, and also some darned good friends.
4,000 posts to an online forum also reminds me I have a lot to do, very soon, and I am not getting it done sitting in front of a keyboard and monitor.
I've but a few short weeks left in the Air Force, then I walk away with a "USAF (retired)" behind my name for the rest of my life. My pension is enough for a VA mortgage and some Hamburger Helper, but that's about it. So shortly after New Years, I'll be doing 90 days' worth of tromping around, prostituting myself and my clearance, interviewing and distributing resumes to whoever will take one.
Somewhere between now and the end of that interviewing process, I'd like to stop and smell the flowers, maybe get some long-awaited range time in, throttle things back just a smidgen, and spend some quality moments with those near me, including a wife who endured my TDY's and worried herself sick through my deployments, and a 100-pound furball who head-butts me towards the bedroom each night at 10:00, then sleeps on top of me. It's their turn for attention, now. They deserve it, and my first big hurdle is over. I'd like to recharge before the next one comes my way.
It's late. My big furry buddy Bernie and I have work to do in the morning, and we have at least a few months of hard work ahead of us.
I've enjoyed my time here. I'm certain that THR will be there, better than ever, when I get around to visiting again. In the meantime, thanks, THR, you've been wonderful!
