Today i hit the jackpot. Thanks to this awesome community i found out about the Walmart deals. As many of us did, i went looking for one, the process was a nightmare with the sells lady who clearly hated me from the start and hate selling guns but that’s a rant for another time. Long story short the manager told me that they had a two rifles in the back both in 223 with scopes for 79 each because of the scope, so i told him that i would take both, Thinking about the Savage axis. I filled out the paperwork and after everything was said and done he brought the boxes out and this is what I scored.

Remington 700 ADL in 223 with a scope

And to my surprise a Savage Axis XP

but a small label on the side said SAV AXIS HB CAMO 223, it turned out to be a Savage Axis II Heavy Barrel with the Accutrigger and a scope.

both rifles for $79 each it’s the best deal i ever had on a firearm.

Normally I wouldn’t get excited about either of those rifles. Not really a knock against the rifles per-say. They’re both good guns. Just that they don’t really do anything for me. HOWEVER....if those rifles had been twice that price, I would have snatched them up. That was a FANTASTIC find!!!!

Your deal gets better- there is a 50.00 rebate on that savage so ya will have 29.00 and tax in it :p

I got one of the savage axis HB .223 like you and I am looking forward to shooting her- grabbed a few rem 700 adl's and a few more Axis over the last couple weeks too...
Hahaha true, there are a few things to think about, first the generalbrule that the scope should be at least half the price of the rifle that’s out of the window because the scope probably cost more than the $29.00 rifle hahaha so what can i do in this case? Well I slapped a $20.00 bipod from amazon and call it a day muahahaha

So did you have to ask them to check the back? I've checked our Walmart and haven't seen these recent deals that people are talking about.

No, unless you are a lucky sort, you must have the bar code for the SPECIFIC rifle you want. My three:

One of the moderators ought to morph all of these Walmart threads into one giant thread.

A note, which I do not know as fact, Walmart was not closing these rifles out because they are not selling hunting rifles anymore, several of the stores I visited which did have clearance rifles have since loaded their racks with brand spanking new rifles including models I have never seen at any Walmart before and while there may be a hunting season or end of season sale as is typical, I doubt they will be these ridiculous prices again anytime soon, but we can hope ;) .

Where are you getting the bar codes that Walmart sells? For instance we on any of their Remington 700 actions.

Axis 2 in 223 and wood stock Axis in 3006.

Shot the Axis 2 sunday.

This was at 50 yards at the indoor range. I just shot a ziplock bag of old 55 grain reloads that were loaded cheap and fast for AR plinking. And that range you can't get a good solid bench rest. But I got it sighted in. Need to get to the outdoor range and get a good bench rest group with better ammo.

I always stuck my nose up at 223 chambered bolt guns. But after shooting this thing I'm hooked. Had a laminated Bloyds stock in the checkout cart and backed down twice now.

Get a Pro Varminter or an At One if they have them available for that model. Both are a big upgrade.

I am certainly no expert but I figured this out pretty fast, there are several on line inventory search engines that somehow can check the big box store product status. You go to the retailer (Walmart for example) in the menu of the search platform, pull of the SKU finder and then enter a search word (for example "rifle") and then usually enter your zip code and hit go and that usually populates a bunch of rifles. Then select the model and caliber and select it and that rifle should come up with the stores it is in inventory and the price. Then I think it is under details it will provide the bar code and SKU.

This bunch of clearance rifles is about done in, there are not any or many left. People far more savvy than me and most of us snatched them up, that being those folks that run their own stores or resell and mark up products bought at Walmart do thus stuff for a living, and they bought up most of them, the rest of us were left scrambling for scraps but sometimes even unlucky people get lucky.

The Savage is the same gun I got. But don't call it a day yet, sarduy; there is a $50 rebate on Savage Axis!

Mars 51 mentioned it in one of the other threads; here is the page on Savage's website:

Final cost will be $29!

Me, too, vzenmn, until my son bagged 13 deer in one year with one (Party hunting is legal in WI) . I will work on mine over the winter, a Boyd's stock is slated for it, and better glass.

It's not just rifles they are clearancing. The stores are selling old stock to get ready for new inventory. There is a thread in the optics forum going about scope deals with Nikon prostaffs for $75 and Leupold Rifleman models under $130 at many Walmart locations right now. They arent drawing in the scalpers like the rifles so you have a very good chance of finding them. Lots of inexpensive accessories as well should you need a sling or case for those new rifles.

i’m already on it. Waiting for approval.

I would have some honest jealousy brewing right now if I cared more about bolt actions.

As I said in another thread though, I did go out and look and got skunked. These would make great donor rifles for...,,something...anything.

I am still kicking myself for not going out and looking for the Mini-14s that got clearances a few years back.
