The $158 Rifles?

Had a laminated Boyds stock in the checkout cart and backed down twice now.

Just do it, get the Boyds stock! I will likely replace the stocks on all three of my Wally-rifles and do some upgrades eventually. My Axis II 6.5CM with Boyds Prairie Hunter stock, Nikon BDC scope mounted with Talley rings:

I have only shot the Axis II .223 heavy barrel a few times. The Bushnell on it I rather like so it is staying. But I plan a Boyds At One stock for it this winter if it continues to be a good shooter.

Hard to believe there weren't mistakes made in selling those rifles at the prices mentioned. Somebody may get called on the carpet after that sale.

Yes!

Today i hit the jackpot. Thanks to this awesome community i found out about the Walmart deals. As many of us did, i went looking for one, the process was a nightmare with the sells lady who clearly hated me from the start and hate selling guns but that’s a rant for another time. Long story short the manager told me that they had a two rifles in the back both in 223 with scopes for 79 each because of the scope, so i told him that i would take both, Thinking about the Savage axis. I filled out the paperwork and after everything was said and done he brought the boxes out and this is what I scored.

And to my surprise a Savage Axis XP

but a small label on the side said SAV AXIS HB CAMO 223, it turned out to be a Savage Axis II Heavy Barrel with the Accutrigger and a scope.

both rifles for $79 each it’s the best deal i ever had on a firearm.

I like the Boyds stock :)
Did you order it from Boyds?
What was the cost if you don't mind me asking ?

I like the ones I got with the wood stocks, they seem a lot better than the plastic one, I will look into something to stiffen the plastic one since I would be hard pressed to spend a lot on a stock for a $79 rifle :). I lucked into 3 with wood stocks, 223, 243 and 270 and 1 with plastic, 6.5cm. I will wind up with more in the plastic one when I get some scope rings.

I must of missed out on the $400 6920. But I did cash in on the $400 mini14.

I am trying to wait until I shoot it a little more before modding it out. But the boyd,s stock on the 3006 is making it hard to resist.

You should just order direct unless Optic Planet gives a break. You also want to get the metal Savage trigger guard assembly (Boyds has them) and the V3 aluminum clip:

You can get aluminum or steel tubes at the hardware store to pillar the rifle or buy the kit from V3. I am trying to keep the total price for my Wally-clearance "custom" Axis II below the regular retail price. I bedded the front of the action, you can see the pillar:

You can see the rear pillar here and what little epoxy bedding I could accomplish back there, the Axis really cannot be bedded at the rear tang and does not need it because the rifle is fully located and supported by the pillars:

Next year same time ...

I'm hoping I catch the .45-70 Henrys next time around.

Nope, standard end of summer Walmart gun clearance. Happens every year, usually around mid-August

Yes. The reason the clearance prices took a second and sometime third drop this time around is mostly people lately are choosing self/home defense type firearms, less people shopping in the stores due to mask restrictions, and less discretionary spending money to begin with.

I wound up with 4, a plastic 6.5 creedmoor that I feel will have to be stiffened, it feels cheap, and 3 wood stocked ones that feel a LOT better. The bases were off on the 270, I could've eyeballed it better, I removed them and reinstalled, I will probably do the others as well. Be sure after cleaning to retorque the action screws to 35in lbs.
I am pleased with my purchases but not the hassles they put you through to give them money.

I just ordered a new stock for my "bargain" Rem 700ADL, .223 sporter. It's an H-S Precision Pro-Series synthetic from Nachez Shooters Supplies for a hundred-twenty bucks off their regular price. It's still not cheap, but I have a similar Sendero stock on my Rem .270, 700 BDL. I'm used to it and it's comfortable for me.

The factory ADL stock has been "Picherized" and the rifle is very accurate, but I like a wider forend.

Just added up what I've spent on the "bargain" ADL after getting a great deal and its not as much of a bargain anymore: Leupold 3-9X scope and $350 for the new stock makes it one of my more expensive hunting rifles. The Sendero take-off stock on my Rem .270 only cost $50 when I found it in a gun store's "old stock barrel". What the heck...when you've "gotta have" something that's ON-SALE, get it!

No, unless you are a lucky sort, you must have the bar code for the SPECIFIC rifle you want. My three:

One of the moderators ought to morph all of these Walmart threads into one giant thread.

A note, which I do not know as fact, Walmart was not closing these rifles out because they are not selling hunting rifles anymore, several of the stores I visited which did have clearance rifles have since loaded their racks with brand spanking new rifles including models I have never seen at any Walmart before and while there may be a hunting season or end of season sale as is typical, I doubt they will be these ridiculous prices again anytime soon, but we can hope ;) .

What is the model and chambering of the stainless rifle?

What is the model and chambering of the stainless rifle?

The stainless rifle is an Axis II in 6.5CM. It is the one that led me to discover the closeout deals at Walmart. I was looking at the rifle and the assistant manager was at the counter due to several people being out with sickness or fakery or whatever is going on. I was looking over the 6.5CM rifle when the manager fellow told me there was a clearance .223 heavy barrel Axis II so I asked to see it. He put the 6.5 away and in a moment came back with the .223 and told me it was $79 so I told him I would take it. He then told me that the 6.5 could be had on a reduced price, a "manager's mark down" because it was missing the box and manuals and there was a small dent in the stock. So I asked him how much and he told me the reduction would be to $149. So I bought both and walked out with them all happy. Then a week or so later I got a call from Walmart and was told they had found the box and other stuff and to come get it if I wanted it, so I did and while there getting the box I had looked up on the brickseek a Remington 7mm Magnum that was clearance at $249. So I attempted to buy it but my background check was put on hold and that they would hold the rifle for me. Meanwhile, once home, I decided the $249 was not enough to tempt me, well, the next morning I look on brickseek and the rifle is $99!!!!!! Okay, and it is still on hold for me, so I drive out there and grab it, so I got three reduced price rifles. More or less it went that way.

My Axis is now sporting a bipod clearanced down to $11 from $45, and a $3 clearance sling. Bringing the total up to $50.65 after taxes. That leaves me with $380 and change left that I can spend on this gun before getting to what it would of cost me at regular price.
I'm thinking of stiffening the factory stock and trying it out before I start buying a Boyds stock. In case I end up deciding I want to upgrade the scope and rings more. Been watching a bunch of YouTube vids on the subject.

I would be curious how it shoots in stock form.

They shoot quite well. Here's mine at 25 yards, zeroing target:

That's with 62 grain Silver Bear. I pulled the bottom one down. That is a 3/4" red dot they are on. It shot the same at 50, just a bit higher. I plan on putting mine in a Boyd's stock and putting some better glass on it.

Search around a little and you may still find a Nikon buckmasters series 3-9x40 for $30 clearanced at a WM nearby. Decent glass while keeping your budget down.
