The 642 club

You are insane! :D
B'ref, as you may have noticed from reading, the only requirement for membership in the 642 club
- even more important than owing one - is a touch of madness. ;)

Stephen: Stephen is my name. I'm the most wanted man on my island.
Except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
Hamish: Your island? You mean Ireland.
Stephen: Yeah. It's MINE.
Hamish: You're a madman.
Stephen: [Laughs] I've come to the right place then.

DAdams-

You are insane! I really have to spend more time reading this thread.

I really wanted to be the Club Jester not SAE. But hey some things are just larger than the individual and I will serve. I can do this SAE job and entertain. DAdams, the comedic SAE, hmm, It has a ring to it. "Bailiff, whack his...PP".

I guess back when I ran off some whack job posting distasteful nude photos a couple times I was perceived as a hard azz and, yes, nude can be distasteful, remember "I must protect her"? :D The photos really were quite disgusting and this guy (probably 14) just wasn't going down the road fiVe had in mind when after six days of creation; stood back with his hands on his hips and said:
"This 642 Club thing I have created, it is good, let it be." Then he went and took a nap.

I think that captures the essence of our merry band.

It is good to see the 642 Club back at the top of the page on a regular basis; This is how it was intended and how it should be, even if I have to look at a few bottomfeeders now and again!

DA - I was going to nominate you for the Village Idiot, but I am reserving that for a special person. As far as a Jester goes, we have an unoffical one already (I think we all know who that is)

Scoolyard bully...?

Does anybody have any idea how well a 1911 and a 642 will get along if carried in the same range bag? I hope there is no trouble because I just ordered a Springfield Armory Loaded 1911 this week. If there seems to be a little bullying by the big guy, I may have to get me a 442 to even things up. Who am I kidding? Of course I will have to get a 442. :D

Word on the street is, they get along fine since they use different rnds and fill different niches.

Still, adding a 442 to the mix, just for parity, couldn't hurt.

God I love reading this thread! I rarely have anything substantial to add, but I sure do get a charge out of reading the exploits of fellow members.

I am now oficially at 1,505 rounds out of my beloved 642 - without a single hitch. I just can't seem to stop shooting it. Often, I swing by the range after a long day and have been known to set up and shoot just a cylinder - then other times, two or more boxes. This revolver has been an absolute joy and a learning experience.

Speaking of which, I have a question for my fellow 642-Heads. I front pocket carry my 642CT in a Mika pocket holster in 95% of my shorts and pants. The issue I'm having is with my North Face convertible pants/shorts. The front pocket is far too deep for effective carry. However, the rear pocket seems designed for the Mika and it fits perfectly - I can draw it quickly and naturally. My question goes to wondering if back pocket carry on a semi-regular basis will have an affect on the integrity of the gun? I'm no small potato, (6'4" 265). Will sitting on my revolver have any ill effect? It sounds like a dumb question even as I type it, but I still must....So, is rear pocket carry bad for my 642CT?

Thanks Gang!

As Per,

Mark

Unless you have a very hard and sharply pointed mass on your rear that would come into contact with the gun, I'd say no. Because otherwise I don't see how one of the cushiony parts of the human anatomy is going to put onto the gun more than the 18,500 psi SAAMI max pressure of the .38 Special +P for which the 642 is rated. :neener:

Sorry, I had to have fun with that. As long as you aren't sitting on rocks or concrete fequently the 642 should be fine. I've yet to own any CT grips, so I can't answer as to how they'd do.

Now, We are just as open minded as the next guy but this clubhouse is just getting a little bit too PC for us. Pictures are one thing, but an auto in the same range bag as a 642? and it's not even a S&W auto? We would think a 442 is requried by Club bylaws in this situation and we would demand that the SAE rethink his position and hopefully come to his senses in regard to enforcement of some kind of "resonable" agenda to stop this madness, we say nip it, nip it in the bud, before this clubhouse starts to resemble some of the other wantabe, upstart, touchy- feeley no moral compass, ramble on, rant and rave type of thread that does not contribute to the standards set forth by me ..err..we, the subjects of the 642 kiNgdom and THR. What say you?

I have a 442, 642, 686 and wanted something else so they got a big brother in the 629-6 5" I just bought and will pick up in about 18 days, why 18 days? I'll begin DROS when I pick up my Marlin 1894SS on 8/4. I'll take a Family picture for everyone on 8/14.

I wounder if Oleg has ever done a X-mas card with guns wearing santa hats? You know a traditional Family holiday card type pic? Wishing everyone a grate weekend as I am celebrating my 17th anaversary.

MassMark - If you ask nice maybe Ms. MassMark will sew up the offending pocket to you specifications? Or you could just keep flipping it over and it will even out.

Seriously, as ugaarguy says, it shouldn't be a problem for the gun. I'm not too big on rear pocket or SOB carry from a security point of view. You have less control with rear carry and if you ever really need it and have to think about where it is...plus, I'm sure you know the feeling of you hand in you front pocket when something dosn't seem quite right...

glockman19 - Hey, happy anniversary to you and Ms. glockman19. Hope you have many, many more.

My 629-5 6". Just what is DROS anyway?

Thanks all 642 Heads - :)

It's a rare occasion that I have to back pocket, but when I do, it's nice to know that the 642 is up to the task of holding up my.... ;)

jt1 Thanks,

DROS, Dealer Record Of Sale. while they check to see I haven't turned into a miscreant since my last purchase 30 days ago.

Sweet 629. I decided on the 5" barrel because I thought it was a little better balanced that the 6" of 6.5".

I feel that I must apologize if I have offended anyone (jt1) for suggesting that I may put an auto loader in the same range bag as my 642. What was I thinking? Of course my 642 will be carried safely in my Smartcarry holster while the 1911 will be forced into the dark recesses of the range bag. And, I still need to pick up a 442 to show that I have learned my lesson.

642 Head t-shirts?

I'd buy one.
I wonder if there are any creative types in our "club" that could draw up a simple but  design. Would we need permision from the mother ship (S&W) to use there logo and or likeness of a 642?

MassMark-
I too have wondered about back pocket carry. My concern is more with somehow changing the CTs laser point of impact if I sit on it for too long. I don't have quite the mass as you (6'2" 215 lbs), but I do wonder if you can throw off the laser.

FWIW-
IMHO, I think an a picture here and there of some of the other things that make our lives happy (bottom feeders) is OK as long as they don't take over the thread.

jt-
That is a sweet 629.

I concur with that.

As I've said before, we're focused on X42 here (and related SW snubs), but we are a club and we own other guns. So, occasionally, we're going to want to discuss those other guns, especially in relation to our X42, whether it be comparison/contrast, additional carry, alternative carry, whatever. IMO, that's OK.

Yes, the "as long as they don't take over the thread" part is relevant, but shouldn't discourage us from posting about other guns. If we get out of line, King fiVe and/or one of our multiple Jester at Arms will remind us to get back on topic. ;)

glockman19 - DROS; bummer, out here with a CCL you pay your money, stick it in your pocket and walk out the door. (what ever happened to the "shall not be infringed" part?) That 629 came from my uncle. He bought it new, fired six rounds, put it back in the box, handed it to me and walked away rubbing his hands mumbling something about a "&$(@*! cannon". :D

Phydeaux642 - You have learned well. Let the 442 serve as a reminder. Maybe we all have learned and need a reminder!

1BLINDREF, Nem - OK,OK, may it please the MJA's, Here's mine. A birthday present from my wife many, many moons ago.

I thought DROS meant 'Dead Right On the Spot', a suitable rating for a 6" 629. BTW, my first 629 was a -5 and a Mountain Gun. It was super with .44 Russians and Specials, a bit of a handful with Magnums, but that was with Ahrends grips. I tried the Hogue grips exclusively made for S&W for their X-frames (.460 & .500 Magnum OEM) - fantastic recoil reducers! I bought a new 6" 629-6 just to use those grips two years ago - and replaced my 4" MG with a standard 4" 629, as it and the 6" have the same sights, hammer, trigger, and now - the same .500 Magnum recoil-eatting grips:

IMG_0214.gif

The rounds are .44 Russian (240gr LSWC), Special (200gr GDJHP), and Magnum(300gr LSWC and 240gr SJHP) from L-R. The HKS #29 has 200gr GDJHP in .44 Special. Yeah, they aren't pocket pieces... there are some things the little 642 excells at. I had to infuse the thread with proper roundguns, after even pictures of evil-bottom-feeders were posted - gasp - here!

Boys will be Boys

Auto Phase.
Everyone goes through phases either before or after the acquisition of the 642. Your life shall be defined as either B642 or A642. There were times prior to the acquisition, ie. B642 where enlightenment or 642 nirvana had not been attained. There are those who might temporarily slip, and fall from grace A642. Those are then ones we need to counsel and talk down, and work towards a return to center. Perhaps good therapy would be the acquisition of a 442.

Let's get this semi-auto business out of our system. Post em up and be done with it. Or we can go over to the Auto section and start a 642 owners auto thread.

Jt, I will never be qualified to be anyones moral compass and PC be damned.

MassMark, I like, it 642 Head. I do see subtle T possibilities here, tasteful yet funkadelic.
