Hey guys "What's your Every Day Carry (edc)" gets asked from time to time here. It usually goes on for a little while with no real thought behind it. What I mean by that is why do you carry the things you do? What all do you carry(Note this is on a normal day not a day where your planning on going to a rough area and bring 4 handguns and 3 knives plus 500 rounds) For just a normal day or even work day and day off what do you carry and why. I would like to talk about all things related to EDC in this thread.
Such as:
Belts
holsters
knives
lights
mags/mag carriers
phones
pens
keys
fanny packs
I would like this to include pics if you want and descriptions of the particular items you carry. Such as I have so and so belt I bought it at such and such and paid roughly blank for it. Also how and where said item goes on your person.
Let's keep it on topic guys No I can't tell you what I carry because then the Government will know :rolleyes::rolleyes::banghead:
Okay folks let's have fun:D:D:D

P.S. Anything that you edc that you feel the group will benefit from hearing about is fine by me.

Belt Man Belt (horsehide)
Laguiole pocket knife
Phone
Wallet
5.11 90 lumen pen light
watch
Sig P239 (Not everday but most days)
Spare Mag in Pocket
Tucker Gun Leather Hybrid IWB Tuckable holster

I found a Wolverine brand belt that is thick, heavy leather and just plain works. I have carried a AA Streamlight for years, and has never let me down. My wife got me a SOG Flash2 as a gift a couple of years ago, and I love it. My carry rotation is a Sig SP2022 in .40, or a Para GI Expert 1911 Government in .45. I have the cheap Blackhawk IWB, nylon pancake, and Serpa holsters for both, and use all depending on dress, activities, necessary level of concealment, etc. IWB at 6:00, OWB at 4:30. Finally, I carry a spare mag in a Blackhawk Kydex single-mag case OWB at 9:00. This setup has worked well for me for years.

Pretty much everything but the kitchen sink

My work uniform is BDU pants and they are convenient as hell for all the crap I carry at work but the vast majority is unnecessary away from work.

Work EDC:
Barrier device
Non sterile gloves
Hand cuffs
3 hand cuff keys
Radio
OC Spray
M&P 40/ level 2 retention holster
2 reloads
CRKT "Ignitor" knife
Fenix E 11 flash light
Fenix UC 35 flash light
About 9 pens (8 of which will disappear into thin air by the end of my shift)
Clip board
MY phone
THIER phone
30 keys that collectively will open every city owned lock in the city and become a MAJOR PITA should I ever lose them.
Ballistic vest

Go bag:
Most important LUNCH
1 pair each
Socks
Boxers
T-Shirt
MY wallet
MY keys
About 20 more pens and at least 1 extra note book.
Garmin
Rain gear
Gaiter
Beanie hat
Fleece (if I'm not wearing it)
Winter gloves
Phone charger
20 more pens and another note book
Aspirin
Multi tool
Company hand book & policy manual.

Not at work EDC
Wallet
Phone ( I will leave home without a gun before I will leave home without a phone)
Keys
CRKT "Ignitor" Knife
Fenix E 11 flash light
M&P9
2 reloads.
If I have my dogs 2 poop bags

For the last six weeks I've carried this .44 special Charter Arms Bulldog. Holster is a Galco Combat Masterpiece for a S&W J-frame (perfect fit), belt is a 1.5" leather RafterS. Bianchi Speedstrip with reloads, a Spyderco knife of varying flavors, essential keys, Iphone, and a small fenix light.

If on a road trip somewhere...replace the CA with a Glock 23 or 27 and a couple of extra mags. And a bigger light of course.

  • 5-shot .38 Special
  • Keys
  • Wallet
  • Phone
  • Change (coins)
  • Pocket Knife

Sometimes Chap-Stik, but always the above.

Everything "belongs" in a certain pocket. Except the gun, which I carry IWB.

Pocket Knife is smallish. It has been a Buck Nano Bantam most days as of late, but I rotate other small pen knives, lockbacks or the very occasional SAK.

Used to smoke, so used to have cigs and lighter in the mix as well.

I carry a KAHR PM45 full of 200gr Gold Dots, in a Desantis Super fly or a High Noon Mr. Softy
also a cheap Spyderco unless it's lost, then any knife I can dig out of a drawer. I also carry a Leatherman Wave, in a horizontal Safari Land belt holster (on work days). The belt is a Beltman hoarse hide, and I love it.
Of course the iPhone is a must, along with my wallet and 8 keys on 1 key ring

+ Chapstick, depending on the time of year

I carry only my Taurus PT709 9mmP with 7+1.
No extra magazines, no knives, no flashlights.
If I need a light there is a big one in my car.
If my car is not close, my phone can provide emergency lighting.
If I go to more dodgy areas or go camping or so, I take all my spare mags along and carry one of them, plus a knife on me.

Every day I wear cargo pants, shorts, or BDUs and carry:
iPad mini
iPhone 6S
a SOG Fielder assisted opening knife
keys and a pill bottle full of nitro
small hardcover notebook
my handmade fountain pen
wallet
Glock 17L IWB in a hybrid holster
34 rounds of Winchester silvertips on me and 34 more in the van
Indestructible SuperBio belt
Spare mag weak side
Gerber multi tool
Solitaire AAA light on my keychain
Usually a couple of nonwinning lottery tickets.

I’ll play too.
One front pocket:
Key ring with a micro white LED light
Cigarette lighter.
Other front pocket:
Small Swiss Army knife with a micro red LED light.
Money clip
Loose change
Back pocket:
Wallet
Other back pocket:
Hankie
Comb (Even though I don’t have enough hair left to comb)
Clip on knife w/3.5” blade ($2.50 at the swap meet about 4 years ago)
And in the adjustment loop of my suspenders, a mini (1.25” blade) switchblade
My “Clam shell” phone is usually in a shirt pocket.

Then also in front pocket in T shirt weather:
A 2” bbl pre model 37, model 37, model 37-2, or model 637
Or OWB a 3” bbl model 37-1 with a cover shirt.
And a 6 round speed strip.

And the guy I was chatting with at the tire store today wearing the S&W M&P T shirt carries a M&P Shield 9mm IWB.

I wear cargo pants. L front keys and CRKT knife, left cargo dumb phone, r front handkerchief, r cargo, wallet and flashlight. Wilderness belt, 4 o'clock Glock 26, +2 OEM magazine plus one in the tube, Alien Gear 3.0 IWB, 10 o'clock 2 X Glock OEM +2 magazines. I used to just carry a spare magazine in a pocket until San Diego.

Typically my EDC consists of a gun (Kahr CM9 or S&W Model 638), a knife (Kershaw Scallion), another knife (Victorinox Swiss Army Knife), a cell phone, a spare magazine, or a Bianchi Speed Strip. Holster (SOF-TUCK), and belt are both by DeSantis.

Belt is a basketweave duty belt. On it rides a Kel-Tec PF9 in a soft-side IWB Tagua holster, worn between the belt and pants. My Samsung Galaxy S5 rides in a pouch opposite it.

A S&W folding knife from AutoZone rides clipped to my pocket. My badge case, which doubles as a card holder, holds my CWFL and ID, along with credit cards, etc.

At night, a Crosman tactical 100-200lumen flashlight goes along in a pocket.

Frequently, a Kel-Tec P32 also goes along in a pocket, in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster.

A man-bag goes with me whenever I travel in a vehicle. A second cellphone, checkbook, and a few other things are in it, as is the P32 if it's not in my pocket.

Traveling to and from work, which is a no-carry profession (EMS), the PF9 stays home, and only the P32 goes along, in the pocket. All other remains the same.

I don't have any pictures, but I'll play. For my average workday, and using a belt that is either an Aker B21 or a DeSantis Econobelt:
  • G19 -- Strong side, in a CBST; purpose should be obvious
  • Spare magazine -- weak side in a mag pouch; purpose should be obvious
  • Wallet -- inside jacket pocket; carries all the usual stuff in wallets
  • Card wallet & business cards -- inside jacket pocket; because I hand out business cards like they're candy
  • Pocket briefcase (holds index cards) -- inside jacket pocket; I frequently take notes that won't fit on a business card
  • Chap Stick -- pants pocket; does anyone really need to ask why?
  • Keys -- pants pockets (more than one set); so that I can drive and get into my house and office
  • Handkerchief -- Yes, a freakin' hankie; wherever I can find a spot; because I want a jury to see me as a compassionate person when a little old lady cries at trial

ETA: Edited because RetiredUSNChief grumbled. :neener:

EDC..."Every Day Carry"...

Holy Cow! How many more people here are going to list all the clothes they wear, plus the kitchen sink?

Car and house keys? Wallet? Money clip? A frickin' HANKIE?

Seriously, people! And not a one of you evidently paid any attention to the "why do you carry the things you do" part of the OP, apparently, which is what's supposed to make this thread different!

Car and house keys: So I can drive my car and get in my house.

Wallet: So I can carry some ID, credit cards, and cash.

Money clip: So I can carry some folded bills in my pocket.

Hankie: So I can blow my nose.

With these kinds of things, I'm surprised none of you guys listed tampons and pads.

My EDC involves:

Three-bladed pocket knife: every day utilitarian tool since childhood. Also can be used defensively if required.

Colt 1991A1, loaded with 230 gr Gold Dot hollowpoints: Because sometimes I need to drive a nail into a post to hang yard sale signs.

Cell Phone: Comic relief for my daughters because it's a flip phone, entirely suitable for calling for help if required for at least a week on a single charge.

For the stupid stuff:

Belt: Because I need to hold my pants up while supporting my Colt 1991A1 hammer.

Milt Sparks Criterion holster: Because my Colt 1991A1 needs a good holster. Also has the neodymium magnet clips, making it ultra convenient to put on or remove whenever required.

CPO challenge coin: Because I like free drinks.

Keys: Because it's easier to unlock things and start my car when I have keys.

Wallet: Because that's the ATM for my wife and kids.

Chap stick: Because cracked and bloody lips during the dry season hurt.

I hate carrying too much crap around with me.

I wear jeans or cargo shorts 99% of the time.
Belt is made by.... I dunno. I got it at a Runnings Farm and Fleet for $20. It's thick, stiff leather, and it keeps my pants up with a gun IWB. I replace it every two years or so.

Left front pocket, Iphone.
On my belt is a Springfield XDs 45 acp IWB in a Hidden Hybrid Holster (5 or 6 round magazine).
Also a leather key loop for my dozen keys I need for work and personal life.
In my front right pocket is chapstick, breath spray (former smoker), truck keys, and a pocket knife made by...... Someone in Japan. It cuts, so that's fine

Wallet in the right rear pocket.

Note this is on a normal day not a day where your planning on going to a rough area and bring 4 handguns and 3 knives plus 500 rounds

As the chance of needing your weapons changes, the amount of firepower you will need if you need them remains the same. It doesn't matter if you're in a good neighborhood with a 0.000001% chance of needing to defend yourself or in a rough area where it's 50/50, if you need it - you need the same amount.

It's not like you can say "oh, this area is 10% the chance to be jumped as that area, so I only need 1.5 rounds in my Glock 19 instead of 15 rounds."

-------

As it relates to EDC, here's mine: phone, wallet, keys. Everything else is superfluous to my day-to-activities. I used to also carry pens (anywhere I need a pen they usually have one), a flashlight (my phone kind of covers that now), my knife (it's usually close, and most places I need one they have one), and a firearm or two.

The last I don't carry anymore because I'm working two jobs, one on a military base (no weapons) and the other in a martial arts school (no pockets or anything on your person other than your uniform).

So yeah. My EDC is the basic essentials I need every day. Keys, wallet, and phone.

See photo below. There are some variations but the blueprint is very consistent.

The absolute minimum

  • Striker fired double stack 9x19 polymer frame pistol with no manual safety
  • Pepper Spray. Sabre Red, Sabre Red 1.8oz Crossfire, or Fox Labs 2oz 5.3
  • Zebralight SC62w
  • Keychain including Thrunite Ti3 flashlight
  • Wallet, Cell Phone (not pictured, used to take photo)
  • Casio Pathfinder Wristwatch
