So I got an email today from midway USA that Hornady TAP .40S&W was in stock. The email was time stamped 1501 pacific time, but the time I got home at approximate 1600 I clicked the link and the ammo was already sold out with no back order ability.

The price was competitive but certainly not a blockbuster. I know there have been an exorbitant amount of threads about the ammo shortage but this is really out of hand at this point.

I am going to the gun show tomorrow but I fully dont expect to find any ammo there either.

Damm I need to start reloading, but it seems like even components are impossible to find.

gun show

Oh u can find ammo at gun shows, just be prepared to spent 3-4 times the normal price!!!

They certainly are.

Too many people hoarding ammo. It really bothers me too. It's too bad people aren't more considerate. Of course, some guy's going to come in here and tell you to "save it for someone who cares" because it's a "free market", but he also probably has 16,000 rounds of .40 S&W for "just in case". I bet if he lost his ammo in some boating accident or something he would whine just as loud.

Anyways, good luck. Hopefully this craziness will end soon.

Must be terrible to have two hobbies that you can pour an unlimited amount of money into.

We are going to continue to see this type of selling out until all the... scaredy cats finally gorged and become full, fat and finaincially unable to buy more. They will then lay on the ground for a long time while the ammo prices and suppy comes back down.

Yesterday, I found a 1# can of Unique. :what: I forgot I had it. :D I also have 500 projectiles for .40 cal! There are bags of clean brass...AND...800 primers! :what: I will be busy for a bit, thank you!

Now...to the tune of Rawhide...Loadin', loadin', loadin'...keep them bullits rollin"...

What is this, like the 10,000th thread about ammo being in short supply?

People are stockpiling in preparation for legal restrictions on guns and ammo and some are stocking up in preparation for an anticipated civil war. I see people with hand-trucks at the shows hitting the ammo dealers for multiple cases. The retail stores (like Wal-Mart) get shipments in and the first guy there buys all they have. The production of some less popular calibers, like 380 ACP, has been curtailed to concentrate on the calibers in higher demand. This unprecedented demand has driven prices through the roof. I saw one dealer asking $30 for a brick of crappy Thunderbolt 22s. I am not buying ammo in this panic environment. I have enough on hand to go to war if necessary and I have stopped recreational shooting until the situation improves.

Either guns or ammo will be banned or taxed into oblivion and/or the civil war will start or the panic will subside and inventory will catch up as the demand relaxes. One way or another the situation will resolve itself with time.

I've found that it's mostly with the pistol ammo this is going on. Especially calibers like .380, .38spl, .357, .40SW, .45acp, 9mm. Do people think they're gonna fight a civil war with just hangun ammo? Jeez... Haha

Yet the rifle and shotgun ammo for the most part well stocked everywhere local that I've seen for the past several months. What would be the purpose of hoarding just pistol ammo? I don't get it.

They had an entire shelf full of 9mm 124gr. +P Golden Saber at the ammo section this morning. $29.99 per 25rd box. Ouch!

I doubt much of that will move anytime soon.

Remember when we used to call those other guys "sheep"!!??!!

I'm with Saxon Pig and the others that are going to sit this out (fortunately my reloading supplies allow it) and wait for the craziness to subside. I'm good for at least a year.

Im good for 5 months, next month I will be good for least a year regular practice included.

What is money to stimulate a dying economy with 6 million jobless?

I'm not sure people are arming themselves for a civil war as perhaps they're readying themselves for an economic melt down. I have quite a bit of ammo and reloading supplies but I am buying more if I can find it at a decent price.

Not necessarily... depending on what you mean by "normal."

I was in the market for a modest amount of Federal Gold Medal Match 168 grain FMJHP .308, and had placed an order online for just a tad over $1 a pop... on backorder. Not a "normal" price, depending on your definition, but pretty much the going rate these days.

Went to the show in Harrisburg, PA a few weeks back and one of the big ammo sellers had a good sized stack of cases at a bit under $1 a round. It went quickly, but one case went with me. Cancelled the online order once I got home.

Yes, the ammo market is crazy these days, but (relative) bargains can be found... even at gun shows.
