A friend of mine has a XD 9mm and I wanted to look at it. I am thinking of getting that or the XDm. After our lunch meet we went out side to the parking lot to look at his gun. He whips it out and hands it to me and says Oh! it is loaded. I wanted to feel the grips and dry fire it. So I asked him if HE would unload it. As I was handing it back to him I noticed it was not in battery. The slide was not fully forward. I pointed that out to him. He racked the slide to get he bullet out and handed it back to me.
That slide and barrel had so much crud on it. I just was over whelmed. The breach face was caked with carbon and maybe unburned powder or what ever it all was. Everything was bone dry I mean dry dry dry.... I ask when he last cleaned and oiled it. It had be months. I asked why it was so dry. He told me he was using Dryslide. He had gotten it from old friend and it may have been 20 years old then...
I looked at the bullet that was in the barrel it looked really beat up. I would have disposed of it and not put it back in the gun.
I am not a Mr Neatnick or anything but I always clean my gun after shooting.
I find that an enjoyable part of gun ownership.
He has his CPL (CCW) and carries regularly. This gun was not ready to use and shoot if a situation came up. Maybe my horrified looks said something to him.
