Where do these news stations get these so called experts? Saying the shooter had an automatic weapon, calling magazines clips, saying "clips" that hold 100 rounds are illegal, etc. Why don't they get someone that knows what they are talking about?

I was reading something online that used the word clips and magazines in the same sentence, talking about the same thing.

Something like "Talks have been made about banning these high-cap clips because there isn't a need for such a big magazine"

So dumb....

It started right away this morning with reporters on CNN saying things like "Where did these weapons come from?" and "How was he able to get his hands on these 'assault rifles' ?"
Their ignorance knows no bounds....

The news reports are starting to really make me sick. Here is a web poll from one Denver station. Note how they try and sell you on the answer you should submit.

http://kdvr.com/2012/07/20/web-poll-should-it-be-legal-to-own-an-assault-rifle/

In almost every other nation in the world, the AR-15 assault rifle is either illegal or heavily restricted. In the U.S., there are no restrictions against owning this weapon.

It’s with that in mind that we ask the following question…

The assault rife James Holmes used in the Aurora theater shooting was purchased legally. Should that weapon be outlawed?

Yes
No

They had some old woman expert, on, showing clips of sucessful robbery prventions and saying that they should not have resisted, that 80 somthing percent would have lived anyway. And that this was not the perps MO. This after a gun was shoved in a jewlers face, just total BS.
they want us to wait and see if he shoots us before responding because their studies show the may not shoot us. I volanteer her to work the counter of the jewlery store and see if she's right. where do they find thse people, That was a perfect spot for a laser last night. Right in the head.
I don't think I could have run if I thought I had a shot, gas lights whatever. I know at 75 feet I can put my dot on a pie plate and destroy it. Just 2-3 seconds. max and he would have been the dead dark freaking knight. Too old and pissed off to run.Now we get to spend a hundred million for security and a trial for this dxck weed. Why can't we take him out and execute him for crimes against humanity..

One said that it's a federal offense to own a 100 round drum magazine. Well what do you expect from a retired NYC detective?

Note how they try and sell you on the answer you should submit

Despite the twisted question, the poll results seem to reflect the modern trend to blame the perpetrator and NOT try to disallow people the means to defend themselves just because a homicidal sociopath chose a particular weapon:

The assault rife James Holmes used in the Aurora theater shooting was purchased legally. Should that weapon be outlawed?

Yes 27.39% (995 votes)

No 72.61% (2,638 votes)

There will be a LOT of "experts" stand up and show those that know the TRUTH how totally uninformed they really are. The old saw about shut up and listen instead of open your mouth and prove you are totally dumb comes into play here.

Unfortunately this tragic incident will put us on the defensive for a long time to come. It will be brought up time and time again in all the gun grabber discussions. It will also put those on the fence or who never gave it much thought to join the anti gunners in their argument. Not sure what can be said to fix it.....
Had anyone with a cc been there could you have stopped it in light of the panicked crowd rushing to flee?

One of MSNBC's "experts" also said that the AR was capable of firing 50-60 rounds per minute with the 100 round drum attached....

Well - yes it can be...you can't pull a trigger 50-60 times in a minute? Even taking recoil into consideration - it can be easily done. I heard the same thing stated on CNN also.

A semi auto AR can be easily have a rate of fire of 50-60 rounds per minute if you don't have to change out a magazine.

This guy does a 30 round mag dump in about 8 seconds....if anything - you can achieve MORE than 50-60 rounds per minute.

Search youtube and you will find several videos of people emptying 100 round mags in less than a minute with a semi A/R....

That news outlets bother to trot out their experts is amusing to me. You don't have to listen to what they say--just note the network on which they're being paid to say it.

It will always be like this--my expert vs. your expert. My guy's credentials vs. your guy's credentials. The term "expert" is defined so broadly and so diversely that it has become meaningless.

Which points to the age-old truth: it is entirely possible to be a widely recognized authority on any given subject and still, on some specific point regarding that subject, to be completely wrong.

A lawyer friend advises that when it comes to "experts" to prove your point; "Money will buy a whore to say anything your want." Keep shootin' and check 6

I recall loving to have a dialogue with the gun banners in the first 'gun' forums such a the CNN's some twenty years ago - they're so ignorant and arrogant. (Now we just argue amongst ourselves.)

It is so obvious what the agenda is for the Anti Constitution 'Americans' that it's would be laughable if not so serious. The media couldn't care less whether a Glock had a 1000 'bullet' 'clip,' as long as it scares the obtuse public.

Any self-respecting 'expert' sells his/her behind for money. If the 'media' only knew the real facts, they'd go nuts. So, they keep on trying ... and we buying more firearms.

Oldie but goodie:

Few years back a friend from Finland called and wanted to have a semi-auto part to his new full-auto M-16 the government was subsidizing to get more assault rifles to the hands of the population. So, he and his posse possessed full-auto EBRs until I managed to ship them the parts. It all went through the reservist organizations. And, Finns order people to use silencers.

Our 'journalists' and 'experts' are real ignorant and biased if one may suggest such a thing in the THR.

Paging Massad Ayoob, please get on Internet, TV, & Radio to get some facts, truth, and sanity into this issue. Thank you.

This stuff coming from the mainstream doesn't shock me at all, it's been their M/O for years. But what does suprise me is that some of the more "conservative" sites have big headlines about how the guy had bought "6000 rounds" of ammo.

Spod, if someone can only fire 50-60 rounds in one minute with a 100 round drum attached then they need to work on their trigger finger. What I'm saying is that ARs are capable of a much higher rate of fire than that, much much higher.

Even using 30 round magazines, I can fire much more than 60 rounds in a minute...

We need some real experts as mentioned like Ayoob, to go on and explain that this could have been done with any weapon, if a crazy person decides to kill people. He could have made incendiary bombs or pipe bombs or a hundred other ways to kill it he wanted to kill that bad.
You can't stop a determined person who doesn't mind dying from killing people, we first heard that in the Godfather, and the Kennedy assasination, no one can be protected 24/7. But if there would have been a dozen permit holders in there I am pretty darn sure one bullett would have found it's mark. Probablly would have saved a lot of dead people.
I know at that distance even with all the smoke, I could have put a laser on him. Maybe 1 or 2 seconds. Even if one got killed another shooter would have got him.
Gun free zones are only for law abiding people, to criminals they are" kill without retribution zones".

I really don't see what the big deal is and why everyone gets in such a stink. So they used the wrong term. "Clips" or "magazines". The general public knows what they are talking about, and that is their audience. They are reporting general news on a tragedy of enormous proportions, most likely under emotional stress. I've been following this, and have yet to see someone interviewed preface the interview with a "I am the leading authority on all things firearm". Give them a break.

Clip is the general publics definition of a magazine, just like body armor is the general publics definition of a ballistic vest.
Both are wrong.

I really don't see what the big deal is and why everyone gets in such a stink.

Because words mean things, and the right words can shape and mold perspectives. Calling an AR-15 an "assault rifle" is not only completely inaccurate (false reporting), but it defines the gun's primary purpose as being used to "assault". With two small words, they have completely changed the gun from the number one selling long gun in the market most commonly used for hunting and shooting competitions, to a tool used solely for killing people. Make no mistake, how a gun is labeled makes all the difference in public perception and to politicians.

Furthermore, using terms like "clip" and Glock .40 is specifically designed to create a "gangsta" impression. At its best, it is ignorance and bad reporting, at its worst, it is full blown propaganda.

I actually heard a reporter interviewing one of the victims and he actually told the guy "Not to put words in your mouth, but would you say the shooter was robotic?". George Stephanopolis actually said that the shooter may have been a member of the Tea Party, only to have to apologize shortly thereafter. I have never seen so much blatant anti-gun opportunism and agenda pushing so openly on display.

Tragically, the media couldn't even wait a day out of respect for the victims and their families in what is clearly a horrific and tragic event before turning this into a political firestorm. My prayers go out to the families of the victims.
