He's not the only veteran to bad mouth the 1911. One I know was a very small guy, the 45. was too much for him. I can't imagine having to carry a BAR and a 1911 like he did.:uhoh:I might have collapsed after about half a mile.

I think he understates his own screen talent. The fact is, Ermey, along with Baldwin and D'Onofrio, stole Kubrick's film out from under him. Nobody even remembers Modine, the supposed lead, or what political points Kubrick was trying to make. R.Lee blasted across the screen like a cannon. And yet he's resisted getting typecast. He's played supporting roles so different from the DI you probably wouldn't even recognize him. Check him out in "The Salton Sea," "Se7en" and "The Rough Riders."

Good read. Thanks for posting it. Go Gunny!!!! As far as the 1911 vs Glock stuff, I have a large collection of 1911's. I love them. I also own 4 Glocks. If someone were to say, You have to pick one firearm, fire 10 rounds, and your life is on the line if there are any malfunctions.........I would reach for a Glock. Sorry, but my experiences dictate it the SMART move. Just one mans opinion.

Durring my companies weekly call in, someone hit the sounboard of Gunny
in Full Metal Jacket. Everybody cracked up, after his explanation of being a bigot. Gotta love 'im.

When you’re out of ammunition for that M16, M14, M1 or whatever the case may be, and those rascals are coming up over the berm, the pistol, it’s something you can shoot these guys with and it’s a one-shot situation. You lay a .45 slug right in the middle of somebody’s chest and they’re gonna stop. With the 9mm, you gotta shoot them three or four times to get their attention. Might as well have a .22 Magnum. I wish they’d pull their heads out of their butts and start thinking about this. Even police officers, why should a cop who’s being fired at put three rounds in center mass before he stops this guy? One round’s all it takes for the .45 and that guy’s not gonna feel like shooting at you anymore.
Gotta love him. Its only a matter of time before 9mm is gone now.:D

I've loved him ever since he pointed his finger at me and yelled: "Don't go anywhere you Grabasstic Snotball, Mail Call will be right back here on the History Channel!".

R. Lee for President.

Full Metal Jacket is THE Vietnam Era film. I did like the Mel Gibson movie too. Anyway, Gunny is no John Wayne. There won't be another one. Clint Eastwood came closest. Getting old sucks.

I enjoy Mail Call. I also tend to agree with the Glock choice.

am I the only one who caught the whole he understands the waiting period crapola?

I love the gunny and all but damn he might need to catch some sun in a different state for awhile.

He says he undertands the reasons claimed for it, he didn't say he thinks it's a good idea. In fact, he then proceeded to shoot it full of holes by pointing out that crooks get their guns off the streets, and that if a law abiding person already has half a dozen handguns, the law makes zero sense.
