The Rifleman

The Rifleman is what made my Dad ask for a lever gun for father's day. He didn't want us to spend a lot of money (most Chuck Conners replicas are north of a grand, waaaaaaaaaaay beyong our budget, and I don't like the fact that the stock is autographed with his mug on it), so I got him a Winchester Model 94 for $200 and he was more than happy.

You could just get yourself a nice lever action and install a large loop on it if it doesn't have one already.

The above link has some info, and the site also sells a replica. Unfortunately, it's freaking expensive at $2400 plus shipping!

Somehow, having a rifle that goes off when you load it sounds not only counter-productive for any kind of accuracy, but very dangerous for those not expecting it..

I do believe it is called fun.

chuck connors rifle

I have done some reading up on this rifle, Chuck could actually shoot very well. as for the 12 shots, the last one was dubbed in to go with the theme music. Guns and Ammo issue of Feb. 2007 has a real good article about that gun, you can probably download online. Chuck played pro basketball for the Celtics and pro baseball for the Cubs, so he was no slouch as an athlete. too bad those old westerns are gone now, I never knew a man could get shot with a large caliber weapon and there be no blood. then again those were the days when Desi & Lucy, Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore slept in separate beds. my times have changed.

After you have been to a real war you don't let your kids play with guns. I never had a gun untill I got a real one when I was old enough to know what it was for. A early post wondered why they don't make neat toy guns anymore. Hard to teach kids not to play with guns if they have guns to play with.

And yet, back then we had a lot less problems with gun violence. Kids played with toy guns but they very well knew the difference between toys and the real thing.

:scrutiny:

My father served on the Korean Way (Navy U.D.T.) and yet, when I was a kid, I played with plenty of toy guns. In fact when I got a little older my father bought me a BB gun.

My grandfathers went to WW1, my dad toured Europe with the 506th PIR.

I had plenty of toy guns.

I did two tours with 5th SF in RVN.

My only problem with guns is the heavily armed "enthusiasts and wannabees" who never bothered to man up and serve.
Swaggering about loaded down with unused combat gear.
Free country.

Steve McQueen was better because he liked girls in real life.
