Cylinder conversion for 209 shotgun primers
I would like to inform you that I manage to find the source of those conversion cylinders using 209 primers in Cap & Ball revolvers.
Just to remind you:
Well, those cylinders were manufactured by Howell Old West Conversions LLC. http://www.howelloldwestconversions.com/index.html . I contacted them several times and they are willing to make them for us. The prices are estimated from $255 to $345, depending on quantity ordered and material, (blue steel or stainless steel).
Also, according to their website http://www.howelloldwestconversions...38accca6a-C27188B8-0314-A039-CDECE4DA2EE93311 , stainless steel will be $15, and fluted and beveled cylinder will be additional $35. I expect that for our cylinders charges will be close to those listed.
Idea is to have option for stepped cylinder, so it will take one of those SWC 250-255 grains, and have powder space as for 45 Schofield, hence we can use those loading data for smokeless powder. Stepped cylinder will prevent from pushing bullet too far into cylinder, thus preventing powder space to be reduced.
In addition, I would like to have option of very short counterbore .456-.457 dia so SWC and other standard bullets with oversized dia could be inserted, and squeezed on .4520-.4525 when pressed in, instead of shaved as we have situation with original cylinders. I will contact them and see if they could make a sample, first without initial counterbore, and later with it as described, and check is any difference in accuracy. I expect tighter seal with later, especially with standard bullets, however, standard bullets will certainly require some sort of press to drive them in.
As for firearms, I was thinking of Ruger Old Army and Remington 1858, because they are the most numerous. I can list other models, but be aware that if the number of potential customers is small, the cost will be higher than for Ruger or Remington.

Regarding potential buyers outside USA, as far as I know, Cap & Ball (front loaded) firearms and parts are not subject to USA export permit. Wow I think I would like a couple of those. I am thinking 777 and Kaido bullets. Does that sound plausible in an ROA?

If I read the post accurately, it says that there would only be enough room for powder for a Schofield load. If 209 primers could be used, perhaps BH 209 would be a good choice over 777 since it is about 30% more powerful than BP. 777 is 15% more powerful.
You don't need a special cylinder or ignition source to shoot Triple 7 or Kaido's bullets. I use up to 35 grns of 3F T7 and a 240 grn Kaido bullet with a Rem #10 cap.
From what I've seen BH 209 and T7 give quite similar velocities (rifles), but 209 is more consistent and easier to clean.

Right, idea is to use smokeless powder in C&B revolvers. In our areas almost all indoor ranges prohibit use BP or its substitutes.

There's a fair chance that Power Custom has a trigger that will work. Give them a call, they're very knowledgeable and helpful. Also, Clements may have something as well.

Thanks to both! Ruger makes referrals but, no success with them. Powercustom has the triggers which will fit the Old Army AND, Bisley hammers which will not. I got the impression that if there was sufficient demand for the hammers, they would be made as well...and other parts but, there needs to be sufficient demand. I'd sure be up for three Hammers...as well as the one trigger. Any demand for the Bisley hammers to fit the Old Army?

Altamont Classic Slim Grips
Unlike 'toolslinger', I don't have "grizzly paws" for hands. The standard ROA/Blackhawk grips are too wide at the bottom.
I ordered a set of super rosewood Classic Slim panels and they came yesterday. Not only are they gorgeous but the slimmer grips have an indentation halfway down that lets my thumb fall right into it almost like a target grip.
I couldn't be happier with them and the price was unbeatable.

By the way, I just got off the phone with them. I ordered another 2 sets - one in Super Walnut and one in Silver-Black.

I found this thread while researching BP pistols. I found a great price on a Pieta 1858 .44 cal at Cabela's, but decided to check my local LGS to see what they could do for me.
My philosophy is that gun shops are like butchers ... you need to develop a relationship with both to get the best deals. I have a VERY good relationship with mine and it paid off in spades.
They contacted a distributor and got the info for me but lost the paper they had written it down on. I came back another time and the clerk told me she had forgotten. Not a big deal as I was in the "looking but not QUITE ready to buy yet" frame of mind.
She was taking the info down again while we were chatting and I mentioned that what I would REALLY like was an ROA but they were discontinued and the ones on Gun Broker were out of my price range.
Her eyes lit up and she walked off. When she came back she had the beauty below.
It's a 1994 model that a friend of the LGS owner brought in on consignment a year ago. (My LGS is a great little pawn shop/gun shop/archery store combo) According to the owner (and based upon my inspection) it has never been fired. It still has the original warranty card and the nipple wrench was still in the sealed envelope. They wanted $500 for it.
It's now on layaway and I should have it home payday. Someone was smiling down on me today and life is great!

That's a great price for an unfired ROA, and even better that it's stainless, as they usually run about $100 more than the blued!

Welcome to the club and the forum! You got a good price on that ROA. I have three of them and they are all wonderfully accurate. You are gonna love it.

Thanks everyone. I've never been a patient man and wanting to shoot this gun is bringing that out to the nth degree. I already have all the ammo components and have ordered a new set of nipples from Track of the Wolf for it. Might as well have a spare set, right? I am looking at the Konversion cylinders for 45acp and 45lc for it. I will probably pick it up tomorrow or Monday. The wait is KILLING me!

Know how you feel, got my 1st one during the dead of winter and had to order balls til my mold came in, a long wait and finally shot it when it was 22degrees with a 10mph wind, but it was fun.
