The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

Hi Evan why cant you post to Australia ?
is there some legal problem with posting gun parts overseas
I can understand cylinders barrels etc.
Just wondering
Regards Ian.

It looks good to me and it was a perfect fit.

It's nice to be to be able to have the lever on it. I think the two tone look of the base pin gives it character what do you think ? I wish I could get the beautiful visual effect of pearlite to come through on this webcam camera.

How slow is Ruger?

Hey guys,
I am trying to get some input on Ruger. I have posted this twice and had no response.:banghead:
My ROA & Blackhawk are need of reblueing after a house fire. My LGS said 4-5 months or more.

Anyone have experience with this? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry no pics they weren't burnt too bad mainly turned the bluing black. I wanted manufacture finish to keep value. the grips were pure black from the smoke. the fire only got the edge of the closet they were locked in but the case was open.:cuss: my other weapons that were in closed cases survived.

Predicting Ruger's turnaround time on repairs, especially the ROA, is a crap shoot. 4-6 months is probably too long, but I'd plan for at least 2 months, if they agree to do it at all.

One great thing about sending your ROA to Ruger for service, or any other Ruger pistol, is that you will be getting back a 'new' pistol. You will only know its your same ole' pistol by the serial number. Oh, here's a tip, if you have modified your pistol with any part that is not Rugers own, they will put back an original part in it. That goes for new springs, cut springs, combination parts, whatever. Make yours 'stock' again before sending it in. They wont return your 'out of spec. part too. Even if you spent money gold plating it yourself !! They want their products to be 100% on spec. [Reminds me of Rolex] That is why they offer a 'lifetime' warranty. Best regards to all, and keep those ROA's roaring at the range folks !!

The Bear Creek Volunteers is a new Cowboy Action Shooting/SASS club in Southwest Missouri. Their range is a few miles north of Branson, Missouri, easy to find a couple of miles west of Highway 65. Their first match was today.

I shot my 7.5 inch Ruger Old Armies with Goex 2F and home cast round balls and went clean for all five stages...no misses, no penalties. That's a great way to end a shooting season and a great way to begin at a new club.

Dang I love these revolvers!

Dusted off the ROA

Been a while since I took the ROA to the range, but I took it with me Saturday along with my Sig 1911. Walther PPQ 9mm and a S&W .22A-1 just for fun. Shooting the ROA reminded me of the reason I fell in love with ROA's in the first place :)

New ROA owner looking for some input. I'm gearing up to cast some LEE REAl 250gr bullets. Is tumble lubing sufficient for this style of bullet or is a "cap" of grease one each cylinder hole necessary to prevent chain firing?

Lubing isn't for chain fire protection, but ease fouling, though I found a bullet I cast did quite poorly without lube despite a lubed felt wad.

Here's mine!

I just found this club and I’d like to join! I (hopefully) have posted a photo of my membership requirement. I’ve had mine a long time. Bought it in college from a gun smith at the outrageous price of around $125 and change. I should have bought 2, but 1 was all I could manage as a college student. I love this gun and have had a blast shooting it! Plus, I develop patience each time I shoot while waiting for the smoke to clear to see if I hit the target! I added a red insert to the front sight because it seemed like me and my fellow shooters usually found ourselves shooting late in the afternoon or near dusk. I need to put a new piece in there. And I need to see about getting some re-bluing done. But it works like a charm. It’s as accurate as any cartridge pistol I’ve got.

Dalton: I have not dealt with them personally, though I have wanted a cylinder for myself, but they've seemed to have an outstanding reputation. I hope the best for you, and that they are just having some form of difficulty.

I'm curious what the problem with this cylinder was. It appears as though it holds no more than a stock Ruger cylinder.

Wow!!!

Unfortunately integrity is rarer these days it seems.

Hope you get this straightened out soon!

I bought a cylinder from them about 18 mos. ago and dealt with a guy named "Bison". They were prompt, answered questions, and gave a ROA Club discount. The cylinder was much better than an original equipment Ruger cylinder and all of the chamber mouths were the same diameter unlike the OE Ruger Old Army.

If true and they have reverted to being scam artists, I am shocked.

To put things in perspective. Less than 2 weeks isn't necessarily that long to not hear back. Also, the General Deer Season opens Nov 1st in Texas. If anyone tried to get a hold of me during the first two weeks of deer season (starting Saturday here in Michigan) they likely would be disappointed. Also not too strange to have a fax shut down or a land line for that matter these days, most people don't use them any more. It seems unlikely anyone would put any effort into a scam to acquire a defective cylinder. I expect it will all work out in the end, just a little slower than hoped for.

Ruger Old Army

I've had this a few years, but only took it to the range once. It was very accurate at 15 yards. I really need to take it out more often.

Welcome cowboyyyy and Scubadale! :D:D

I've spent the last week

reading and skimming this thread. WOW, there are a lot of ROA owners/shooters out there! There is a wealth of ROA info here for me to consume. I was amazed how many of you all expressed the same reactions to shooting this gun as I have experienced. It REALLY is THE BEST cap and ball revolver that has ever been manufactured. I am realizing how fortunate I was to get one when I did. I am getting inspired by you guys to spread a little luv on this ROA of mine (page 84) and get it re-blued - or at least the cylinder and the loading lever assembly. I may have to get me some new grips too. Who does re-bluing? Gunsmiths? Ruger? I need to save some money!!

I kind of like the "experienced" look myself...

Instead of re-bluing the one you have, save up and invest in a second ROA, perhaps one that looks better to you. That way you not only have two fun guns to shoot, but the old one can be a source of spare parts, should you ever need any, God forbid.
