;)Today I had some business in the county seat, where the Sheriff’s Department and its Pistol Permit Bureau are. It’s the Quatracentenial of Henry Hudson’s failure, so everyone who is anyone is getting a Quatracentenial Flag… What!?! You missed out? Congratulations!

Anyway, I needed a duplicate, as my license is 20 years old and in 3 pieces. So I mentioned this at work, and 4 of my employees- the four in the office at the moment, all asked me to pick up a pistol permit application. They are all women. I don’t think I have to worry, I gave them all raises!

At the PPB, the one middle-aged clerk got $10 for taking a new photo, $7 for the application- filled out in duplicate because Xerox is a figment of your imagination, 3 notarized forms, courtesy of a local Bank, and $5 each for 4 Pistol application “packets”.

The application has a fingerprint fee of over $100. Boy, what a racket to be in.

She also told me that normally they processed 15 new applications per month; last month they did 90. In the first 11 days of March, its 30!

She said people are scared. I said maybe they are starting to take responsibility. For themselves. For getting out of Debt. For everything.

Nah... she thinks (Oxymoron?) they are just scared.

Like she is.

Now I can wait 4 weeks for a new piece of paper I can NOT laminate.
