My wonderful girlfriend got me a 1911 as a combined christmas/college graduation present. (To stay legal I bought it, she then wrote me a check which may or may not have been for the gun)

Anyways she takes it home in its nice hard case to wrap it up, and confesses to me tonight she can't put it down. She knows the four rules, handles guns safely, and doesn't have any .45ACP laying around at home so I am not concerned with her not knowing how to operate this gun right now. Bless her heart, she says "I want one of these, what is it again, a 911?" :)

I gave her a brief history of the great almightly and divine John M. Browning, she seemed interested, so that's a start. She is pro-gun and has shot with me a few times, but she's been a little gun shy because her dad died about this time last year and he was going to help her pick out her first handgun. Not sure if gun shy is ever the right word, every time I'd suggest she get a gun she didn't want to talk about it, which is understandable. She is finally coming to accept that I know (a little bit) about guns and is willing to sit down and learn with me. She lives across the border, the new changes in Ohio's carry laws are coming at the right time too.

Had to share, it warmed my heart.

I was thinking, ya know, words every man wants to hear. Like...

"That was amazing!" or

"Turns out I was just late!"
 
I have to admit those weren't the words that crossed my mind when I read the title.

We're all a mess...even though this is a firearms related sight, we all went straight to the gutter. :what: I love it!

I sent my C&R to Classic Arms, and dropped them a note asking if they'd hard chrome a couple Rock Island 1911s (the whole thing this time, not just the slide) and if they did we'd take the first two. I had been looking at Taurus Millenium Pros and S&W M&Ps in 9MM for carry pistols for her, a 1911 would be an interesting way to start out.

I got a Kimber Custom CDP II for Christmas from the girlfriend this year. Similar give-me-the-cash-and-I-do-the-paperwork deal. Good girlfriends ROCK :neener:. She's already got a 22/45 and a S&W 642, now for her birthday she'll probably get that compact Baby Eagle she has had her eye on.
Waiting to hear what make/model of 1911.
 
Might wannah think about marrying that girl. Unless you think you're going to do better!

Unless she is under 21 it would have been perfectly legal for her to purchase the weapon and then give it to you as a gift. That is not a straw purchase.

A straw purchase, which is illegal, is when one person gets money from another person who cannot legally own a firearm and then buys the weapon and turns it over to the person who supplied the money.

What you actually did probably isn't illegal but seems a bit shady - especially considering that you said - which may or may not have been for the gun.
 
That's a thoughtful gift. Last year my wife bought me a Maverick M88 12ga for Christmas. She doesn't know anything about guns but she supports my habit fully. She enlisted my hunting partner (aka her brother) for advice. :D
 
"That was the best I've ever had!" was my first thought.

But, she definitely sounds like a keeper.

My now exgirlfriend and I used to argue about guns. We broke up for about a month, got back together, and all of a sudden she was "When are we going to go shoting?" I thought "Oh, we are getting married now." Didn't work out, oh well. That means 9mm ammo is now 50% off. :neener:
 
She sounds like a heck of a nice gal. Both heart and head in the right place. You were entirely correct to get that warm feeling inside and I appreciate your sharing with the crew!

Be prepared that she might out shoot you!

Every straw purchase thread I've read has half the people saying it is legal and half of them saying it isn't. She's 24/non felon/OH resident/I'm a PA resident/it was easier this way. Basically I bought myself a gun and she wrote me a check for christmas... nothing shady about it.
