Well, I've been here for a little while. Couple of the post topics got me to thinking: what HAVE I learned since I joinedthe online shooting community? Here's a partial list:

-The proper caliber for Zombies is larger than whatever you have on hand
-9mm is for wimps and pansies
-.45 is just too much gun for carry
-Wal-Mart, Ebay, PayPal, Pep Boys, and almost all other businesses (with few exceptions) are gun friendly
-all handgun manufacturers should be avoided (y'all should know the thread)
-Preacherman will probably have the answer to any question you have, and a million puns to go along with it

So... what are some of the things y'all have learned while here?

Things I've learned on THR :

-I still forget what Rich shared on TFL : TTPO

-I learn not so much from the characters typed by a poster - but what the poster is typing and sharing.

-I cannot express myself with typed words.

-So many folks with so many backgrounds with experiences to share.

-The people I have met, communicate with off-forum, and visit their works via other mediums - awesome!

-Confirms the older I get - the less I really know.

-I am going to be really really sad when some folks are no longer with us, when they pass.

-I still get sad when I read posts from members in the archives that have passed.

-I miss some members that are around, but no longer post here.

-I have been totally surprised and shocked by some of the folks here and some very unique things afforded me, and how as a family THR does this to other members.

-The wealth of knowledge on this board and the willingness to share.

-I have not been the best representative member here.

-I just read a recent original post of mine again, did not get to the replies before I just had to go outside and toss my cookies while having the shakes. I'm not bouncing back as should.

-Typing the last sentence does not bother me.

-Some folks still don't get it. Still trying to buy skill and targets.

-I know how some folks feel about me, the good, and the bad.

-If they ever get some bridges built to allow me to drive to some other continents, I have a couch, food and good company to enjoy.

-I ever get rich, I have to visit some folks and shake their hands, hug some ladies, meet some kids and spoil some dogs.

-My Cisco username and password returns "invalid" - it does this no matter how many times I try it - or how hard I press 'enter'.

-Preacherman in real life is different that what most folks have pictured in their minds.

-Larry is shorter than Sandy, and Sandy is quicker shooting from a bathroom window than Larry thought. Yes of course she hit the varmit...

-P95Carry - talks with a funny accent, his wife has a great telephone voice, and she thinks I talk funny.

-Art is Art. Cannot put it into words - just read his posts for yourself.

-I learn a lot about folks, and from folks by simply going back and reading all their posts. I do this at TFL as well.

-Yes I use THR and TFL as 'search engines'. I often refine my search by using a particular member's name.

-If there ever is a Redneck Event - THR is gonna win it hands down. We will get all the style points too.

• That it has much more to do with the software between your ears than it does the hardware in your safe

•Dave McCracken is as good a teacher and does know as much as everyone thinks he does.

•P95 Carry should return to Great Britain, get put up as Prime Minister and fix that place.

•It's more important to spend time actually shooting than it is to talk about shooting.

•A master's degree may make you educated, but it doesn't make you smart.

•I need to meet Harry Tuttle.

•Standing Wolf has a crystal ball. "The American people aren't stupid enough to elect that Kerry creature." (please......say it.."The American people aren't stupid enough to elect that Clinton creature.")

•I like hanging out with shooters, they are more honorable than most of the "other" people I've met.

•I write pretty good letters to the editor.

•A million other things.....

Back in 1950 one of my high school teachers had signs with "sayings" posted all around the room. Took me a long time to appreciate that one of them said:

"A wise man knows how little he knows"

Wish we had a few of these in Congress, and especially the White House.

There are a lot of thoughtful and very knowledgeble people here but there also be Aliens. Maybe even a few Zombies.

- I have learned that I have to read anything Steve (sm) posts twice before I understand it.

- I have learned that not all shooters are crazy people like most of the public would have you believe.

- I have learned that if I have a question, y'all have an answer--for ANYTHING!

Greg

I have learned.......

1. anything less than 45 ACP is useless for SD

2. real men carry 45s

3. if it aint a 1911, it aint sh*t

4. you sould have 2, I said 2, 45s....1 to carry, and 1 for a bug

did I mention I carry a 380? :neener:

JK...I cant even begin to say what a great forum this is, and how many people who visit here have taught me so much.

I have learned that I have learned from every member that posts....not always what I wanted to learn, but learned none the less.

I have learned that gun people are (at least here) the nicest bunch of folks you'd care to know.

I have learned that I am not the only person in the world that thinks Bert Gummer is a fine role model.

I have learned there are many wise members here, and I'm not one of them.

I have learned that Volk means Wolf in Russian, whereas I(Germanically) only thought it meant Folk. (Oleg Sobaka just doesn't have the same ring...:p ) I have also learned Oleg is an excellent photographer, propagandist (in the good sense of the word), and knows the true worth of the 2nd Amendment in a way most of us born here in the US will never know.

I still don't know, however, whether the 9mm or .45ACP is better, The AR or AK is better, whether Glocks are good or bad, and what the best caliber for mutant ninja zombies alien bears is. :D

I am a Ruger guy, and I have learned that THR is better than the Ruger forum.

I am a Ruger guy, and you guys, with all of your knowledge have turned me into a Hi Power guy. (I still have more Rugers, but....)

I am a Ruger guy. poppy

And I've learned that it's usually worth the effort to do so.

I've also learned that gun folks are generally outstanding people, willing to send total strangers hundreds of dollars and it's a noteworthy event when someone gets ripped off.

+1

-pax, she is very sharp, expresses herself very well. One would be wise to always read her quotes.

-Standing Wolf is not only talented with the English language, he is most talented in other ways.

-Tump, just figured I'd expand Darth Ruger's vocabulary a bit more.

I've learned that if the question involves M1 Garands, Swampy's answers are like the word of God.

I've learned to handle trolls politely and make them go away.

I've learned more about rifles, cartridges, twist rates, ballistics, and even some physics than I ever thought possible.

I've learned that THR members are the most polite, thoughtful, caring, and knowledgeable inhabitants of the Web that I've ever run across.

Not just on the High Road, but here are a few …

Handguns aren’t powerful enough for personal defense.

Rifles and shotguns are too powerful for personal defense.

All firearms manufacturers produce shoddy work.

No quality firearm has been manufactured since [insert arbitrary date here].

Train regularly, so you can shoot well in an emergency.

In an emergency, you’ll forget your training and resort to point shooting.

Point shooting is useless, so you had better practice sighted fire.

Gun owners are “sheeple” too.

Gun-control “laws” are fine so long as they target undesirables.

Gun owners are often law-abiding to a fault.

Freedom is a lost cause.

Bigger is alway better, except when it isn’t.

Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.

~G. Fink

-9mm is for wimps and pansies
-.45 is just too much gun for carry

You forgot:
-9mm shooters say .40 kicks too hard
-.45 shooters say .40 is too snappy
-.40 shooters don't say much of anything, because they lost all their fingers to a Glock KB! and can't type

Top 10 things Old Dog has learned on THR:

10. If the handgun has an internal locking system, it simply doesn’t measure up to any previously manufactured handguns by that manufacturer, even though the manufacturer in question may have once been owned by a British conglomerate and gone through a period where quality assurance measures on its production handguns were woefully lacking.

9. 1911 aficionados typically understand far more about handgun operation, maintenance and shooting than the average Glock-lovers will ever hope to know.

8. Some folks believe government actually thinks as a single entity, with an established agenda to strip civil rights from all American citizens … and that freedom is a lost cause …

7. The words “statist” and “apologist” seem to be used far more often by those who have no real world experience in serious matters, while those persons who actually seem to have the real world experience sometimes seem to be the people most often called “statists” and “apologists.

6. A lot more folks than I would've previously thought admit that they carry mouseguns (is every Kel-Tec owner in the world a THR member?), while a lot more folks than I can believe claim to carry full-size 1911s on a daily basis ...

5. If a law enforcement officer writes his post in the woods, and there is no one around to read his post, he is still wrong.

4. In any post even tangentially involving the military, several posters will inevitably make knowing statements about what military life is like now or how today’s armed forces operate based on their experience of military service, even though they got off active duty 25 or 30 years ago.

3. That any post with titles including the words “Wal Mart,” “police officer,” “zombies,” “war on drugs,” “San Francisco,” “illegal immigrant,” “liberals,” “media,” or “SHTF,” to name a few, will generate threads that will go for pages and pages …

2. That I respect those with whom I don’t agree far more when they don’t expend extra energy and waste words trying to find creative ways to call me stupid or mindless, or just come out and call me a “statist” or an “apologist” because that’s easier for them than actually attempting to understand my reasoning …

1. And the Number One thing I’ve learned on THR: There are many very intelligent people inhabiting this forum, and even when I don’t agree with someone’s opinion or conclusion, if they are consistent in their thought process and presentation of their argument, the debates can be fun, I still learn much, and I will still like and respect them in the morning …

I thought the plural of y'all was you'uns.

I thought "you'uns" was just the opposite of "us'uns"...

I guess I just learned something.

I've learned that it is easy to ask questions, and that not all questioners are really looking for an honest answer. Moreover I have learned that it makes no sense at all to be more invested in offering an answer than the questioner is invested in asking the question. Saves a lot in arguments that way.

Maybe if I explained that I just got through spending about 30 years answering questions for a living as a reference librarian, that might help a bit in understanding what I just said. Or maybe not.
