I've learned that any thread that goes more then 5 pages generally has nothing to do with what was originally posted...
<grins>

Find me one - just one - conversation anywhere on Earth that occurs over several days that remains on topic, & I'll buy you a box of your favorite ammo.

& Kilts v. Dockers? LOL.

Can you imagine a bunch of savage, screaming Scotish highlanders (or any other group of warriors) going to battle with the king's rank & file wearing Dockers {tm}? :scrutiny: :D :neener:

>Okay I understand we have guys wearing kilts , no problem, as I have some Scotch-blood in me as well. If I am reading correctly, same guys ride bikes _ correct? I do not have a problem with bikes as I used to as well. Same guys with kilts and bikes carry concealed - am I following all this correctly so far?<

So far, so good...

>Help me out here. At one time our State Regs said Ladies could not wear short skirts on the back of a motorcycle when riding as passenger.<

Ok...I wore a kilt on a bike ONCE. It wasn't a modesty problem: first off, I have none. Second off, a kilt CAN be tucked in between your legs and the tank quite well. However, the ENTIRE time, I was intimately aware of every little pebble on the road. Lay a bike down wearing a kilt, and it don't matter WHAT it's made of: it ain't protecting nuthin'!

Decided I didn't want that road rash...

>I guess this explains where/whom all the garter type thigh holsters are/were sold to and ladies have a hard time finding one.<

Actually, I plan on getting one of those. "Excuse me while I whip this out"... :neener:

>Umm...don't it get a bit cold in them things? Especially on a bike?<

Like I said: I don't wear one on the bike. And the weather's no problem: in summer, stand with legs shouloder-width apart. In winter, legs together...

>Well...concealed is concealed. <

And it'll remain that way...

Oh... the price of a kilt? I go through a $20 pair of jeans in about a year, maybe two. I haven't even really broken in mykilts yet. The normal wear spots just aren't present...

I am german, actually.

And Ayup! I ride my vespa year-round. Rain, or shine. I kinda avoid the ice, but thats only about 3 days a year hereabouts.

On a vespa, tho, you step *through*, not over. The weight of Utilikilt is centered over that which should be concealed, regardless of weapon-carrying status. It just falls down in front of me, and over the seat and gets pinned there by windspeed as I zip down the highway doing 65 on a modified lawnmower. I find that *occasionally* I flash a bit of thigh, but certianly nothing worse than a jogger out for their afternoon run.

As to cold: truth is...knees just *don't* get cold. Thighs get a bit chilly, but most knees have been banged on and falled upon and cut and bruised and scraped enough that there aren't many nerves left there.

Lay a bike down wearing a kilt, and it don't matter WHAT it's made of: it ain't protecting nuthin'!

No kidding. However, denim lasts for about 2 feet on a nice skid. Leather something like 12 feet, and kevlar about 35.

I am on my second one...the first I wore for 2 years before I lost too much weight. Sold that sucker to a buddy for 55$ (1/2 the price of a new one) and bought another of the same, only smaller. The old one was in GREAT shape. He was very happy. He is a Captain in the local Fire Department :-D Good luck callin' 'im a girly-man!

As for Carry: well...the BIG pockets are sure nice on the utilikilt, but otherwise, Thunderwear would be an option ;-)

I've learned that the moderators here have tough jobs and the toughest nastiest moderator jobs are over at Political. Coronach, TheBluesMan, Art Eatman, Don Gwinn, my hats off to you and I can't imagine how you do it. Thanks to all the mods for keeping things civil, but especially to ya'll for keeping some of the poo out of the shallow end of the pool!

I have learned that .45ACP is not a caliber it is a religon and that 9mm is the forbidden fruit used to tempt Adam and Eve resulting in their being cast out of the 1911 garden of eden.

I like my K9. I'll take blackberries, please. ;)

PS: We're now up to 4 'kilted' THR'ers. The more conservative members must be getting a bit nervous by now... :uhoh:

I've learned that you meet all kinds of people on the high road and you can learn from everyone of them. Even agreeing to disagree. My Initial impression of this forum is the fact that 99% of this forum is very civic minded and polite and informative.:)

I'd put that % closer to 87, but otherwise, I agree. ;)

I just want to add that you can up the count to 5 kilt-wearin' THRers. and Hunter Rose? if you want one of those Galco inner-thigh rigs, you can have it for a PM with an address to send it to. my thighs are a wee bit too large for it to fit comfortably, it seems. I just throw my 642 into the sporran on my Amerikilt.

I've learned that it's easier to spend 2 hours a day BS'ing about shooting on the internet than finding 2 hours a week to actually shoot

edit to add: and everytime there's a Remington vs Savage vs Ruger vs ______ (fill in the blank) thread, every factory rifle but mine will shoot 1/4" groups "all day long"

still never found the best handgun for bears

All these kilt-wearers... :scrutiny:

Being proudly of Scottish ancestry, I do have a kilt in my clan tartan, but since my waistline has expanded somewhat as I've grown older, it doesn't fit me. Now, being a preacherman, if I got one of those Amerikilt's in black, could I persuade the Bishop that it was really a midi-cassock?

Preacherman: I'm not sure about the Americkilts, but I know Utilikilts could make one long enough to pass for a cassock... ;)

YES! Now we're corrupting the clergy! SOON WE TAKE OVER THE WORLD! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

What?... no... I took my meds...no, really, I'm fine... what's with the jacket? Aren't those sleeves kinda long? Hey... wait a sec... I....!

>but since my waistline has expanded somewhat as I've grown older, it doesn't fit me<

On a serious note: you MIGHT be able to trade in your current clan kilt, and get a new one. I'm friends with the kilt maker at the Bristol Ren Faire, and would be more than happy to put you in touch. Heck... depending on the tartan and size, I might be willing to buy the old one! PM me if you're interested...

LOL. Yeah, you got me pegged. I thought I could perpetuate the deception a while longer, but clearly my smoke & mirrors didn't work well enough. ;)

Don't know if I'd put the percentage that low, Nem. While there's the occassional "how do I do this illegal act" twit, they tend to get stepped on rather quickly...
You're probably right, HR. I did go a little on the low side there.

In addition to being tired and a little cranky last night (I blew fiberglass insulation all day), I think I was trying to balance that high estimate of 99% that SFC offered.

While I understand the need for compliments, and this forum deserves compliments, ilf we pat ourselves too strongly on the back we forget there's room for improvements. We get too smug.
_________

As for kilts, Erik is out of the kilt closet, and

... GO PREACHERMAN!!!! Get your self a Utilikilt!

Gee, then we may have to start a thread about guns, kilts & Scotish warriors ... :D

Ive learned I can be taught new tricks......yes, Im an old dog.

That THR and TFL are really the same forum with different colors

That my 45, 40 and 9mm all suck and I should carry a big stick with me at all times.

That if a thread has Sig in the title.......AlaDan will be in there somewhere.

That if a thread has CZ in the title........I will be in there somewhere.

That the internet is still a great place for the ignorant/gun rag learned to spout out what they KNOW as gospel.

That 1911 tuner really is a 1911 tuner :D

That if I can be a smart a$$ and do it nicely, I will. If not, then I wont.

Shoot well.

There is only one true answer to the 9mm vs. .45 debate: Buy both, and post pics of the twins.

OK.

Showing off a small portion of my wife's Xmas village also. :D

Add three more kilts to the fold; these are my sons, and I have an identical one; I used to work the MN Renaissance Fair, and we dress up for a local church's Ren Fair every year. :)
