Seriously, hunting is very much a part of rural PA culture, hearing people target shooting from time to time, is not uncommon.

The permit can be applied for online. You pay for it, then print it out. Read the rules, because there are some stupid ones. I.e. no more than 6 rounds in a pistol or 3 in a rifle.

Life long resident of northeast PA (Luzerne County), except for my time in the USMC.
PA guns laws are pretty good. Getting a license to carry firearms, required for concealed carry and carrying in a vehicle is pretty easy to get. The application does state that two references are needed, however I’ve never heard of anyone having their references called.
No magazine limits or weapon bans.....so far!
Some sheriffs will illegally state that you need to be a resident for “X” amount of time before applying for a license to carry. This is NOT true! They will also say that the references must be from PA. Again, it’s an illegal requirement on their part.
A range permit or current PA hunting license is required to use the game commission ranges. You can load 6 rounds in your rifle. It was changed a few years ago.
Philthydelphia and Pittsburgh are really trying to mess up the state. Philly has been trying to do it for years......Pittsburgh has joined the club recently. We’ve been trying to give Philly to NJ for years!
Stay away from the Poconos. The area has be getting flooded with people moving in from other states....and bringing their troubles and issues with them.

The Tafton range is supposed to be nice. I've driven by it, but never shot there. Tobyhanna is hit or miss & you gotta watch your back there a little bit. I would avoid weekends due to crowds. If you do go to the Tafton range, maybe 7 minutes from there is a decent gun shop, Wallenpaupack Sporting goods. Right on rt 6 at the light for PA 590.

I want to join the Keystone fish and game club. You need a sponcer to get in. Im on the hunt to meet someone from there. They offer a lot more different ranges than Zerby or Eleysburg for my likes.

Ya I've been there a few times, nice place. Wish they had a longer range tho.
Don't forget West Virginia. They also recognize Pennsylvania's permit.
