Last week's shooting in the Tennessee church has got the old juices flowing again on me getting my CCL sooner than later.
Mrs. Quoheleth had given me her (reluctant) blessing to get it some months ago, but we had a couple summer projects that needed doing, and our extra summer funds went there instead. Then, our van died so our stimulus check went as a car downpayment. Our AC coil is leaking, and a new one is setting me back $800 (there goes the savings account). And, on top of it all, my sister who resides in FL, anounced she's getting married in October and my mother has declared all her children will be there - "Yes, ma'am." And, of course, since we'll only be a couple hours from Disney, the wife declares we shall go. (Thank God we have commections that can get us a family set of tickets for an outrageous savings.) Result is the funds I hoped to dip into for a license have either been spent (house & car) or are dedicated (Florida).
For me to get my license will require about $200 which I do not have available at this point and might not have for the forseeable future - into 2009, at the way crap keeps happening.
Would it be worth it to sell my Smith MP9 to generate funds for a CCL? I had been thinking of trying to trade it for a CZ 9mm or Ruger P345 .45, but laying in bed last night, thinking, got me wondering about the license instead. I try to operate by the rule of thumb of "swap but don't sell," but that thing in TN really has me thinking. If I could get about $400 for it, that would leave me about $200 to shop for a used pocket gun (Kel-Tek or maybe even a new LCP if I roll just a few quarters together), but I could carry my SP101 or 1911 in the meantime. I want a pocket gun, though, because it'll be easier to grab through my alb's pockets than a larger gun carried IWB under my robes.
Whatcha think? Sell it for a CCL now, or hang onto it and hope funds come together down the road? Honestly, the gun shoots well but I don't shoot it well; I don't know I would miss it all that much...
