Pictured is the second group of five ever fired out of mine, on a shoot-n-c target at 50 yards. The first group was fired using a 6:00 hold to see where the POI was, and so as not to have any "overs" over the berm. This group was a center hold. (Note that somebody cross-fired on my target with a .22!)

Witloe Remington New Model Army

I would like to buy Remington New Model Army replica revolvers made by Witloe Precision Inc. Two models were made. The "Lee" model has a bronze frame and the "Grant" model has a steel frame.

Also, 2nd Generation Witloe’s produced by R. T. Lane.

Any information about these is also needed. I have started a registry to help identify these revolvers.

Range report Rem. NMA 16xxx

I tried out my old .44 yesterday. This is how it performed with a .457 ball, ca 25 gr Pyrodex P, and some cornmeal filler. 25 meters, sitting with sandbag for support. Pretty decent result. 3 shots with a max charge of Pyro P showed 1179, 1201, and 1208 fps on my Chrony! Don't know the exact charge, but it was almost a full chamber. That's nothing to sneeze at. Love these 58's

Well, I guess I can become a member of this group of gun nuts now. Just bought a .36 Cal Uberti Remmie from around the 90s off of GunsAmerica. 98% or better condition from the listing. I just had to buy it cause the barrel marking is 'Primitive Arms Co., Branson, MO'. As soon as it comes in, I'll post some pictures & give a road test report.

Note on his original how little metal there is where the barrel screws into the frame. The Piettas and Euroarms have much thicker frames in that area whereas the originals (see dlon21's pic) and Ubertis have very little. There is almost a straight taper from the frame to the barrel wheras there is a decided "step" on other makes. Some day I'd like to "heft" an original to get a feel for the weight and pointability. Thanks for the photo dlon.

I have two "stock" Piettia .44's that I just love to shoot. I hope they qualify me for this 'Lil Club!
I load mainly a 30 grain load with a Pistol Wad and Round Lead Ball. The Big one sometimes likes filler added if (I use Pyrodex) and there I use Crisco to top it off. The 5 1/2" likes just the basic Powder, Patch and Ball . Odd how they all differ, guns are like Womwn, ya gotta treat each one a little differently...
I have the sights on the short barrel regulated to dead-on @ 21 ft and it just drills out the 10 ring there! The 8" bbl has no sight mod and it shoots a touch high.
For Holsters, I have a Oklahoma Leather Cross-Draw for the 5 1/2". That one is a "natural" for this type of holster and a Strong side, Slim Jim for the full size. It's a fact Long Barrels are slow to draw.
I like the Remingtons because they pass spent caps so well and jams are less frequent than with Open Top Colt styles. I polished the cylinder pin to pervent powder drag and it really helps! I normally shoot 3 cylinder-fulls and then give em a quick wipe-down with Windex to prevent fouling. So far so good.

Hellgate, you're welcome. It was a great day at the range, and a really boring task cleaning up the gun when I got home. When the pyrodex is gone, I'm going to start using real black powder exclusively. A big difference in the fouling...

Oh, what performance do you guys get with a full load of anything in a 1858? 1200 fps seems too good to be true??

Cabela’s color case hardened frame .44 NMA. Not authentic, but I think it looks good. Shoots good too.

I just got one, too. I think it's the handsomest black powder revolver made, bar none.

1200 fps is pretty high to expect from a .44! I'd go with around 700fps for a 35 gr load of powder. Usually you can expect 1000fps from max loads in a .36 caliber revolver. Being conservative in my powder fills,I go more for accuracy than maximum velocity though.
Just out of curiousity (and not to be combative) why are you going for max velocity? Are you going to use the gun for hunting?
You can get power levels up by loading heavy Conical bullets but velocity suffers. The f/p readings will be higher than a round ball.

Handgun hunting is forbidden here in Sweden. Why? I was curious how it would perform with a chamber full of pyro p. And 3 shots gave similar readings, 1179, 1201, 1208 fps. My target load is a charge thrown from my flask, about 25grs. And it does fine using that load.
