Titegroup, 115 gr 9mm, Very Dirty

I recently ran through a series of 9mm test loads through my CZ75 and finally decided on 4.1 grains of titegroup behind my 115 ranier round nose bullets. The test loads shot well and printed a nice group so I loaded up four boxes and proceeded punch a little paper. After only 20 rounds the ejected cases were very dirty and after three boxes the gun was a total mess to clean up.

Has anyone had the same experience with titegroup? Maybe it is just the particular weapon or combination or primer and case but they are certainly way nastier than I like to shoot.

I loaded up some Hornady 124gr FMJFP with 4.6 gr of TG, a bit dirty,Yes but they shot well, so if I get good accurate round don't realy care if the gun is dirty, since I use Weapon Shield on all my guns and the clean up is a snap. Just wipe the gun down and lube the rails. Since I stated using Weapon Shield a brush has not touched any barrel of any gun that I own.

Maybe accuracy and cleanliness together are too much to ask. I am not familiar with the weapon shield product but if it saves time cleaning it is worth a try.

TiteGroup is very accurate however it does leave a telltale burn mark on the brass. It seems to be only on one side of the spent brass. As for the gun, my needs a good cleaning after 50+ rounds using Titegroup.

Have found the same on my .45ACP spent brass also. The tumbler take care of dirty brass.....

I don't know the details of your load but when I was making 9mm with Berry's 115 I ran 4.4gr. Lighter loads means the case doesn't seal in the chamber as well. TG in general is a clean powder for me.

I am using Federal cases, remington 1 1/2 primers, 4.1 grains of titegroup, and Ranier 115grn round nose bullets. Published Hodgdon Data is for lead RN and shows 4.3 as maximum.

I could bump the load up a little and see if it helps but I tend to stay away from max if the target loads are printing well. When I ran tests I used CCI and Remington Primers and I think the CCI primers may have burned cleaner. (Have heard the CCI primers tend to be hotter and it could be that they spark things off a little better.) May try using them before I bump the load.

No it's not.

WSF, AA #5, N330, or N340 with those Raniers will be much cleaner, as well as very accurate.

While Titegroup burns pretty cleanly at normal pressures, it is notorious for the "Titegroup Stain" on cases.

I found Titegroup to be a very dirty powder in my .38 special reloads. It would bind up the cylinder on my double action revolver after only about 30 or 40 rounds or so.
I thought I would like Titegroup because you can get a good F.P.S. load with such a small volume of powder. I have gone back to Alliant's American select and IMR 700X because I can't deal with Titegroup fouling up my gun.

I must be doing something wrong, I have been shooting titegroup with 115 grain bullets in a 9mm and its remarkably clean, but I'm running it a little faster than you are, or maybe I should say I'm running them on the top end of the load data. I'm shooting them in a Kimber and accuracy it top notch also.

Titegroup I have found is very fast and as such you need a larger charge of powder than you would think to get the brass sealed. I had sooty brass with 9mm and medium-weight loads, I went a bit more and the brass is clean and shiny.

I use Titegroup when reloading 45LC. While it is my favorite powder for 45LC, it also stains the brass something awful. I doesn't smoke quite as much as Clays, but it will dirty the brass. Par for the course.

Titegroup appears dirty but you will find that the gun will still run indefinitely without cleaning. I have gone many hundreds of rounds in .45 Auto without cleaning. It should shoot even cleaner in 9MM due to the higher pressure. Get the pressure up and things may get better for you. 115 grain is pretty light bullet, try 147. The tumbler will easily take care of the brass.

I have not cleaned my gun (XD) for up to 1000 rounds shooting TG. It may get dirty but it will still be functional.
