To wheel gun only or not to wheel gun only

It was a CHP firefight. Four officers died. Training across the country began to shift afterwards. Newhall Incident. That link references a wide training revamping, but does not go into detail about the how and why.

Perhaps.

However, I think everyone should read the wikipedia page on the subject. "...a rumor that [combatant] took the time to put his spent brass casings in his pocket while reloading during the shooting - because of a habit developed on the ... shooting range - was determined to be untrue." It cites sources for that determination.

I've been carrying concealed for decades.

Started out with a nicely tuned 1911 .45ACP (Jim Hoag).

Carried that for many years. This was before the 'Wonder Nines' and Plastic framed handguns. :D

Then I switched over to a stainless model 60. Light weight and I felt I could manage any situation. Sure, a holster rig works good and in summer I could simply drop it into a pocket. Did that for a while.

In the mid 1990s I started shooting .40 caliber. Loved the Glock 23. Small like the model 60, carried 13 rounds standard and ran 100%. Carried that for many years.

Now, depending on where I am going, (downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles) I carry a Gen4 Glock 23 and my model 60 (had it tuned again) as a backup. (BUG).

I do not carry extra ammo. (well, in the trunk of the car I do)

I don't like mag carriers at all. I figure 13 rounds of Corbon will work; then fall back to the wheel gun......after that I can still run pretty fast for an old guy.
:D

Be well, Bob
