Definitely the 06, or has that been selected already?! I myself prefer the 45-70 in the JM Marlin in the lever action configuration.

liked that didja?:D
I had to go look up how to spell it, think that's the first time I've ever tried to use it....and my phone wanted to make the bear German.....

Haha, nice. I chuckled when I first typed it out thinking I was original and funny, then I was like wait, I feel like I read that. Went back and of course you'd beat me to the punch!

Why didn't you put a poll in this thread?
'06, BTW.
because there's no real question, it's just an opportunity for us all to be on the same side of the fence for once:D ...cept for those weirdo middle of the fence people....push em off!

Great minds think alike lol.
I'll admit that I can't call that spontaneous....I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere....Xanth novel maybe.

I always said that If I was stuck with one rifle it would be a 30-06. Over the years I have used a 243, 257 Weatherby, 260, 6.5 Swede, 270 and a 338 Federal. Now I have a 6.5 CM and a 300 WSM. I haven't changed my mind. I could live with an 06 with no regrets.

When the 6.5 fad ends, the old war horse, tried and true 30-06 will still be doing what it has always done. It will still be putting meat on the table. For hunting in North America, short of the big bears, there is not much that, the 30-06 can’t do.

I also say the .308 Win Magnum AKA the .30-06.

but that seems to be the consensus and I like being ornery sometimes...no one has mentioned the entirely reasonably recoiling .375 H&H Mag

That's easy,,, Big bear takes the Creedmoor off the board. I think whoever came up with that question could've found a cartridge more formidable than the 6.5 to compare.

It asked a simple question.
For hunting everything from varmint to Big Bear in North America would you choose the
6.5 Creedmoor or the 30-06

Me, hands down the ole 06.
What say you fellow shooters/hunters?

Guess how the results were leaning?

My first choice would be "neither". My second choice would be "neither" as well, as the .30-06 is not really suitable as a stopping rifle for big bears. It's minimally acceptable maybe (and yes, I know the wildlife folks up there recommend it but remember the toothless bush people they're dealing with :D ).

My third answer would be, limited to those two, I'd take a 6.5CM and stay aware from bears.
