Took my WASR to the Range

lionking: To clarify some of my previous comments, you might know that the RAS tested on AK operators Union had very premature wear on the trunnion and bolt lug channel.
"Rob Ski" shows us internal wear results on various guns at approx. 3,500, even 5,000 rds. for certain brands.

He found bad headspace at about 2,500 rds. (?), in the new Century V*** type.

Is it true that Inter Ordnance (I.O.) shut down their AK production for while, as a result of so many serious issues with the assembly of their rifles?

thanks and to clarify my post on the 10/63 regarding the receiver being marked Cugir from Romania I'm not sure if the receiver is Romanian manufacture and if it was imported as a single stack and then converted to accept standard double stack mags? Things I have read about the WASR is they ALL were converted from single to double stack but earlier ones were not done very well? There is much info to sort out on them .

lionking: The triangle with an arrow designates that the receiver was from a military Romy AK.
As for magwells, I don't know which Romys were converted to double stack there, or in the US.

The very seasoned WASR owners on AKfiles have said that recent WASRs had more careful widening than the work done years ago.
Comments there also indicate that extra mag wobble often found in much earlier imports should have no actual influence on reliability, if I remember correctly. Some of them just sound like junk, which can lead to uninformed conclusions.

Two or three years ago I looked for 10/63s or WASR 10s on local Armslist, because gun shops were sold out and no more were avail. at their suppliers.
The reason I bought my SAR-1 was because this rifle was the only Romanian avail. in west TN at that time. A basic WASR would have had the same reliability and ruggedness, these having been my only priorities.
