Torn between revolver and auto

Randall,

No this isn't my first. I currently own and carry a P3AT which is DAO and I dont mind the trigger too much (Not enough reach for me really) on it as I grew up shooting my Dad's Colt Trooper .357 which I shot both DA and SA. Also I did own a XD40 and for whatever reason I was not crazy about the trigger on it, I really dont know why but even though the pistol was flawless and accurate I just can't really say I liked it for my taste. But either way I dont mind a long or heavy double action and I dont mind a SA so long as it breaks clean and crisp.

Far as being like Hi Power, I have always heard it was greatly design after the Hi Power with the same linkless cam locking system and short recoil operation. Yes the slide rides inside the frame like a SIG 210 but other than that there's not much else common there... It isn't a clone of any just took ideas from others.

Thanks for the info. :)

ah so, not your 1st of either one then
(the Keltec was understood up front, but any of the 'special purpose' 380 DAO mini-pistols have little in common with full size or mid-size guns)

"What I have decided is that I would like to have a revolver in .327 and/or a 1911/HP style pistol in either .38 super or 9mm."

Choices in the 327 are pretty limited, mostly CCW snubbies, and CCW was not on your criteria list. Ammo is scarce and pricey. Likewise, 38 super ammo not so commonly seen on shelves, might as well go 9mm if for no other reason than ammo cost. You have shot some autoloaders, and have apparently had an itch for one longer than the 327 revolver, so indulge yourself. I think maybe you are just looking for a little nudge to follow your heart.

Reliability
Accuracy
Range/HD gun

No matter the relative merits of others, nothing trumps a SA trigger for shooting ease, speed, and accuracy at range, in a gun of well proven design.
Get a High Power, it's a classic, it's fun, affordable ammo.
But you already knew that.

Another option

I suggest a Glock 17.

Very dependable, maybe more so than revolvers
9mm Ammo is easy to purchase and to reload
Accurate
Low maintenance, few parts will ever need replacing
Good compromise between the hard DA trigger and the SA trigger
With SD it should handle any of your protection needs, 2 or 4 in most areas.
The GEN4 is just a very nice fit in your hand.

(I am assuming that you are wanting something to shoot often and not a safe queen)

For brass retrieval, go to an inside range ocassionally. I always return with a lot more brass than I shot. Since most do not re-load and everyone is expected to pick up the brass in their area, when your shooting neighbors find out that you are saving yours, they usually donate to your collection bag.

I am pretty set on a High Power or clone of one such as the cheap but good Arcus that I am currently researching. I hate to say it but many of you do have me looking at Glock in a whole new light.

I actually shot one once along with a Kimber 1911 both in .45 (at the time I knew nothing of either to know what I had in my hand) but I recall shooting both good, but a lot better with the Kimber. But I was young and dumb at the time, actually was shooting with my girlfriends dad and I was just wanting to impress him with my shooting skills. I did so as I came close to matching him shot for shot but never gave any thought of how this trigger felt or how this one was... I just focus on the basics and shot. Kinda wish I had that to do over again LOL.

But enough with the stories of yesteryear... I have decided to go with auto, more than likely will end up with some sort of High Power and then down the road add a few revolvers, a Glock, 1911, and who knows what else... all in good time...
