Toronto gripped by US gun violence

Jaco

Jaco, welcome to THR! Glad to see a fellow (though in my case temporary) Canuck. Think we could start a firearm reform movement in BC? We are trying to get a student movement started over here at Trinity Wester University out by Langley. Nah, probably won't do any good. Nice thoughts though. Well, educating the sheeple is what its all about.

Cheers.

Nick

We'll trade you Washington, New York and Massachussets for Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Your crime rate will go up and ours will drop, but at least you'll get rid of your unenlightened hicks and get more cosmo types. We'll get a nice injection of moderately conservative voters and a lot more farm country and hunting/resort property.

The U.S. Canadian borders were tied up in Michigan yesterday. Evidently it was because the Canadian customs officers walked off the job. They want to be armed! Seems the Canadian gov is too stupid to arm even their border guards, and the officers feel the job too dangerous for an unarmed man. Good thinking.

I pray for our friends to the north. Pray that eventually their idiotic government will see the light and recognize that it's not their cities burning from the evil Americans. The price of security is eternal vigilence.

And BTW, Susan Buxom is the hottest looking 66 year old I've yet seen!

"...too stupid to arm even their border guards..." Stevie, if you've ever had any business related contact with them, you wouldn't want to arm them either. Our Customs people are civil service clerks and tax collectors not border guards. Very few of them have ever seen a firearm anywhere, except on T.V. and in movies. Never mind fired one. In all likelyhood, they'd conduct themselves like most of our cops. They'd never shoot any firearm enough to become proficient with it. And they want the same huge paycheck our cops get($50,000 per year plus for a rookie cop). Only the Detroit/Windsor Customs plugs are whining about it. It is the busiest border crossing in North America, but arm them? No. It'd be like arming the clerks in an insurance office.
Mind you, I've dealt with a few part time U.S. Customs people I wouldn't arm either.

Guys ya'll are being too harsh on our northern neighbors.....you seem to forget, they're decendents of the French. Don't think of them as weak Canadians...it's healthier to view them as "tough French".:p

I just got back from canada and their border security was a joke. I could have had ANYTHING in my car and the cow in the little security booth would have yawned and waved me by.

Is that how they are saving money? Hire a cow to watch our border.:D
I hope the US side sends the military to watch our side of that border.
And I hate to say this but I hope they are issued real guns with live
ammunition.Just incase of a stampede:evil:

Do you realize that we do not have CCW and only a very few can carry handguns in the bush? Self protection is an oxymoron in Canada. Keep fighting for your gun rights, I understand that there are people who think like Prime Minister Paul Martin and his ilk in the US.

Thanks Jacho for that excellent summary of the Canadian situation. Its a shame that Canada has followed Europe's lead instead of the U.S. with regards to gun control and socialism.

If I said that the politicians of Massachusetts and California represented the political culture of the USA you would think me naive. Most of the comment here falls into the same category.

"...they're decendents(sic) of the French..." That's glib. Not even the people in Quebec are all of French descent. Neither English nor French are the most common languages spoken here any more. Not since Trudeau opened the immigration gates to import voters.

My heart goes out to all those poor, downtrodden, violence challanged canucks. More's the pity that none of it is their fault. George W Bush must be behind this, in retaliation for Canada being a Wussie on Iraq. :neener:
I sure hope that none of these comments offend any Canadians. That would be an even more egregious injury than just exporting violence.

I thought, by reading the title, that all of the criminals here had moved up to Canada.

ARming our Border Guards - you got to be kidding! They are tax collectors first and foremost. Rude and arrogant civil servants at best.

Standing wolf - We may have the dumbest electors on the planet ie Ontario voters who keep the Liberals in power up here, our Prime MInister maybe be a complete and utter idiot and we may have the worst most expensive gun laws conceived by man but we didn't select then elect George Bush so that makes us collectively only the 2nd dumbest group of electors in North America!

I wouldn't trade you our "socialist hell holes" for any part of West Detroit or any other of your major cities ghetto areas.

You ought to know politicians are the same the world all over. When SHTF blame somebody else. Hillary Clinton claimed the 9-11 terrorists entered the US from Canada when in fact they hadn't. This was about the same time the Bush Administration was issuing US Visas post mortem to the same group. She also recently blamed Canada for the blackout that hit the N.E. U.S. a year or so back when in fact the blackout was caused by an American utility.

If you think the Liberals up here are going to take the blame for their failed Firearms policy and lax sentencing guidelines you can forget it.

If any of you think the political twits in Toronto represent any part of this country other than themselves you really got to get out more. When you burned the city to the ground in 18** something, why didn't you bury it when you had a chance? Would have done us all a lot of good up here.

As an aside in 2004 we had 118 firearm related deaths in Canada out of a total number of murders of just over 500. Kind of puts the whole "problem" in prospective doesn't it.

Stay Safe

Well now a lot said in that post and I don't agree with all of it, but some of it you are right on the money with. Your "socialist hell holes" are a lot better than our "major cities ghetto areas" no doubt - probably because your socialist hell holes started out with an entirely different population than our socialist hell holes (our major city ghettos).

Seems to me that some English fellows (Canadian now) did a pretty nice job on Fort Detroit way back when too - maybe YOU should have done US the favor and finished that particular job :D

The good news about the US is the parts of the country that have similar demographic and socio-economic status with Canada (IE our border states sans the giant ghettos) have similar amounts of murders per capita - granted a lot more with firearms, but hey a murder is a murder right?

This nation should plea guilty, but it's because our media (TV & Hollywood) pumps out this trash they pass off as entertainment.

Well, it's good to see that the word "criminal' still means the same in Canada as it does here, i.e. "one who does not obey the law", including gun laws. Too bad Canadian politicans and 'journalists' haven't internalized that fact.

Jacho, no need to apologize. I find Canadians to generally be very mannerly, orderly, polite and pleasant folks. I've always been treated well when visiting there. However, like most generalizations, there's always a fringe that doesn't fit and the responsible majority projects their values at large while refusing to recognize and effectively deal with those who don't get along, instead making excuses and wanting more touchy-feely PC government programs to help them properly socialize, rather that finding more effective ways (feel free to use your imagination here -) to motivate them to behave and leave the law-abiding alone. We have the same challenges here, just not as bad (yet?).

If I had my way and I won't, I would take the 49th and turn it so it ran north and south. Say Manitoba/Ontario border than just wonder south just east of Texas when it hit a river, run it West until it ran up against the San Andreas (sp) fault then north along the shore line across until it hit Alaska. LIfe would be good. Alas Lewis & Clarke and the Hudson Bay Co. screwed that up.

Shucks forgot about Ft. Detroit and didn't the Brits and our Militia play with matches in Washington, D.C. as well. Ah well, better we all just try to get along and keep the terrorists off N.A.'s shores best we can.

Stay Safe

Heck from my experience you don't even have to go all that much west of London until you start meeting Canadians that think like proper midwesterners, so I think you might be able to draw that line a little farther east if you wanted :D

Maybe this is the time for the the NRA to get active in canada.
If it is even possible for them to operate in some way there.

MIght as well include all of Ontario AFTER we drag Toronto out in Lake Ontario and sink the whole city lock stock and barrel. I'll bet even Ontarians would vote conservative after we did that!

Ah well good to have a laugh on each other from time to time. Hard to be serious when you are amongst friends.

Just occurred to me the only folks our Border Guards are likely to shoot are Yanks, just another reason to keep guns out of their hands.

Stay Safe Eh!
