So I went to the range today to see some handguns and shoot my CZ some more. I got a lot better with the CZ. But unfortunately I didn't get to test out the guns I was led on to believe. The only guns I were shown weren't even on my list. They showed me a Springfield xds, which I wasn't too thrilled with. And a glock 43. I did like the Glock because it fit well to me and it's nice for great concealment. I may get one for my nicer, less forgiving apparel. So, I'm back to square one. I may end up going with the s&w because the xd isn't in any shops in my town now.

So was this some sort of special promotion that the range was running; like come in and test fire a lot of different guns but they really didn't have all that many for you to try?

Just a guy at the gun club I'm in that sells guns. He had a few suggestions when I first talked to him. So I looked at them today.

Unless you're in a big hurry to buy a carry gun, take you're time and find the right one.

Since you're looking at the G43, I assume you're looking for a smaller gun for carry. The Shield is my first choice, but there are a ton of good options out there.

What was it about the XDs that you didn't care for? If you identify those items, maybe we can make other suggestions?

Grip texture? Grip size? Bore axis height? Other things?

The grip in general. Size, texture, the fact I had to move my shooting grip way to much to get the mag release. Didn't get to shoot it though so I have nothing to go on performance.

So if you had to change your grip to eject the mag I'm guessing it was a tad too large?

Maybe try a Kahr or a Kimber Solo. LCS?

Try the 43 if you can. You say it fits your hand well so that is a good place to start. We all like different aspects of guns and most of them are how well we can carry them + how well we shoot them. I'd trust an XDS or Shield without thinking about it much, but the 43 just carries easier for me. Not to throw you off too much but there's a new Walther PPS that I'm sure is just as good as the old one.

Try a Sig 2022 9mm or 40(which I am really liking) $400-450 with 2 separate grips. Mine came with a laser or can be had with nite sights. Awesome gun for the $

Don't be too hasty. I couldn't wait to shoot the S&W M&P, and had zero desire to shoot the Springfiled XD.

Took some newbies to the range a while back & we rented both, along with some others (Glock included, which I had shot multiple times previously).

I was extremely disappointed in the M&P; no particular reasons, I just learned that it was NOT a pistol I was ever going to like.

The XD on the other hand...I was extremely surprised at how well it shot and how much I liked it.

I still own neither of them, but have shot both a couple more times...my initial reactions to both have been reinforced, each time.

Run far far away from the Kimber. Bought one, after 500 rounds it would still jam. So unless they've gotten that issue fixed, run like you're being shot at.

This. I am not a fan of subcompacts by any means. A friend got a 9mm shield with the trigger guard laser and oh my, I fell in love with it. Bit snappy to me, but not to the point I would be afraid to carry it.

I bought the M&P. Gonna hit the range as soon as I can with it. And I will report back. Hope it's as good as I'm told.
