Hey guys, I think I need some moral support or something like that. I've got a 6.5" 610 that's a real sweet shooter, plus over a hundred full moon clips. Problem is, it's just big enough that I'd often rather grab something else that's easier to carry when I'm hiking around in the back country. I've actually been having thoughts of trading it off for a G20SF! I handled one today at the local FFL and, well, it's no Smith. But, it holds 15+1!
Smith pros:
-Steel, will outlast me.
-Rare.
-Great trigger.
-Accurate.
-Supported chamber. I handload full house.
Smith cons:
-Big & heavy.
-Only holds 6 rounds, plus maybe an extra moon clip or two.
Glock 20 pros:
-15+1 of 10mm!
-Easier to carry when hiking / fishing / etc. in the mountains.
Glock cons:
-It's plastic. While I know they're hard to kill, it's still.. plastic.
-Have to drop another hundred bucks to get a supported barrel.
Usage:
Realistically, the only thing I "need" a 10mm for is that I like it for woods carry. It's never really been my go-to pistol for the range mostly because of ammo cost & the lack of brass availability, compared to other things I have around.
Alternative option:
I've really considered sending the 610 back to Smith & have them cut the barrel to 4 1/8". This would a) make it far easier to carry & b) make it legal for IDPA, which could be a hoot. With a couple moon clips in the pocket I wouldn't really be at a disadvantage over the G20, and I wouldn't lose out on owning a fine, out-of-production firearm.
So let's hear it. What would you guys do?
