I traded my 44mag for this XD9 tactical. I have several pistols, but this is the first XD I've owned. What should I know?

I realize I'm new here and I own both a Glock and an XDm and it would be a stretch to say a glock is superior. They both have strengths and weaknesses. I love my Glock and my XDm.

Yeah Akman, I have 5 Glocks and this is my first XD.

Welcome.

I've got an XD-9 Tac & love it. It's a soft shooting gun & it hasn't missed a beat. It's got a lighter trigger than a stock Glock.

Edited to add: 1911 recoil springs fit the XD Tac. Put the closed coil on the guide rod & open end to the muzzle. I'm running mine with a 16 lb spring.

Ditto the 16# spring. I use the Wolff recoil springs for 1911 Gov't model. Mfg part #: 41916. I use it when shooting light competition loads.

Also, if you want a great trigger job see Canyon Creek Custom.

I've put 18k rounds through mine and only had a trigger spring break around 15k.

Enjoy

It's a great gun. You'll enjoy it. Get extra mags because it's not alot of fun reloading those last couple into the 16rd mags. The little tool it comes with makes it easy.

i agree that you traded up. I have an XD service model in .40s&w that just went over 18,000rds. i am very very happy with mine. They are reliable, accurate, and easy to maintain.

change out the recoil springs when they are needed, and if you shot alot of reloads, and or dirty ammo, it will be a good idea to clean out the striker channel every once in a while too, but other than that, load, shoot, repeat.

You will probably find more than a few threads telling you to get a trigger job on it. My advice is to shoot it a lot before considering this; my XD45 is as accurate a pistol as I've yet shot, and the trigger remains stock. However, I don't shoot competition, so that may be a determining factor. Enjoy your XD!

agreed. when my xd was new back in 05 the trigger was a little long, and not very smooth, and a little on the heavy side. but i saw a big difference after 500rds, and it really smoothed out and got great around the 1000rds to 1500rds mark, and it has been awesome ever since. Mine is stock, and no work has been done on it. i wouldn't get a trigger job on an XD. I do shoot competitively with mine and It does just fine.

I have a xd9 and a glock 19 I personally hate the glock I love my xd though I also just picked up a Taurus .38 spl

My XD-40 service is accurate & reliable. I think you will like your newest acquisition.

Great gun. Should feed anything and not malfunction. Not much to know, other than recommendations about who can do a good trigger job if you want one.

Sorry Elrodcod it's my wifes and she has the exact opposite view as me she loves the glock and hates the xd

you should know that it's gonna grow on you.... I own both a G23 and XDSC9mm and see them both as solid guns. I enjoy shooting both. I do prefer the XD trigger to the Glock.
