I will revise the image a bit, retouching the reflection.

Oleg, if you plan to do more poster with soldier/Marines/etc in them, I would use some form of Oakleys and in-the-ear plugs. Those are used by the vast majority of military folk.

She can't use plugs. And I have no Wileys on hand. Should have used an M4, I agree.

Although at the time the DC ban was passed A1s were probably what was most common (not digital camo though).
Could probably do without the eye/ear protection unless they are going to be used in both pictures.
 
Oleg, remember who the audience is - not gunnies - An AR-15/M16A2 type rifle says "military" to them. An M4 with a buncha stuff hanging off may say "toy" to more than a few folks.

And they aren't going to wonder why a soldier might not be wearing ear/eye protection - IMHO, that detracts from the overall message.

+1, their selective use tends to emphasize the vulnerability of the message.
 
How about an "armed city bus" compared to an "unarmed city bus" with the same photo, or maybe a few thugs sitting with their hands folded , looking up front in the first photo.
