TV firearms: Weapons of Stargate SG-1

I didn't know Anderson was an anti?

His character is a bit anti because his son got ahold of his service pistol and accidentally killed himself. He was a basket case until the SG gave him a new purpose.

The underlying anti-gun "conditioning" statement in the show. His kid could have been struck bit a chunk of hail or fell out of his tree house to have the same impact on the show...anti-gun hollywood likes the service pistol line better though :)

I always wondered why SG personnel kept shooting COM at armored Jaffa warriors who weren't wearing helmets or head protection . . . I guess the consultants never heard of the Mozambique drill.

I wonder how the new season will work out - they have the gal who played Aeryn on Farscape make a guest appearance last season and knock the Daniel character around a bit, and it looks like she's coming back as a regular. On the coming attractions I see that the guy who played John Creighton on Farscape now seems to have a starring role on SG-1 . . . this bodes ill for the series, since the guy never acted, he always seemed to OVERact in order to compensate for a hangover or a handful of downers . . .

And in the coming attractions for Stargate Atlantis it seems they have a new character . . . from the glimpses I've seen it could be "Rasta-Man" from that DEA video that made the rounds recently. ("I'm the only one professional enough in this room to handle a Glock . . . BANG! Owww!)

Maybe he got a new job . . . :p

I don't see them even referring to that in the series--just the movie. Even then, the people took up arms against Ra and overthrew him. No doubt, the show is very 2nd Ammendment friendly!

IMO I'm not expecting much from the new season, ever since General Hammond was replaced by the newly promoted Gen. O'Neal the show lost some of it's flair. Now with new characters... well I thought someone would have learned something with the whole new Coke deacle.

Seems like they could throw in a couple 1911's or something.

Or maybe something good, like a Glock or CZ

Well if they run around with P90s why not use the 5.7 pistol as a side arm?

Lots of times they use the Serpent headed Zat ray gun as a side arm.

I've wondered why they haven't reversed engineered staff weapons for long arms. Also, on Atlantis, they have no staff weapons or Zats?

I love Major Carter!1 :D

This is a quote taken from one of the shows. It may not be exact. SG-1 is helping an alien race fight some enemy. They are invulnerable to the aliens energy weapons, but are easily defeated with SG-1's projectile weapons.

Alien: Such primitive weapons you have.
SG-1: Ya, but they WORK.

/Love that show. :)

I'm looking forward to the new season. I really like the early Farscape and thought Crichton was very good in the lead role. That chick he was with is super hot and can't help be do good in a new role. I'm curious to see how they weave the Crichton character into the story when it's sooooo close to what he was doing on Farscape.

As to weapons, I get a little bored with the full-auto jive. I mean, really. How many rounds are they carrying?

The best part that I remember was when the Geek wanted to get his hands dirty and O'neil ran him through the reload sequence for the P90. O'neil must have had him do it a dozen times and it leant an air of realism to the show that you just don't see elsewhere.

My perfect SG1? More Carter. More babes, in general. Better team/unit tactics. Big firefights with proper peel-offs. Run a Rolling Thunder or two!

I'm pretty sure the "armor" the Jaffa wear is designed more to be scary and/or traditional than functional. It seems to be ineffective against kinetic or energy weapons.

pretty cool yes,

but I can't stand the tendency to spray from the hip that he and a couple of other's do. Sam seems to aim her fire however.RichDeanAnderson in ALL the replicator scenes just sprays. YUK. :cuss:

I do like them shooting down the enemies's aircraft with the P90s. Hell of a gun.

Um, because they are a TV show? *edit* sorry if sounded snobby, it was a question rather than an answer*

Its possible somehow.

And yes, Richard dean anderson is anti-gun. Not activly, but ist there :(

Although Teal'c is my favorite character.

Anyways, to the guns!

They use them well, although i too dont understand why they use berettas and not fn57's. Most of the time they actually aim them correctly, and i never see bad trigger handling.

Plus, even when they talk about "his kid shot himself with his gun" they dont press the gun issue, so its not all bad.

I coulda swore,

...they filmed in Vancouver, (for the outside scenes, anyway, )

as far as the weapons go, I understood that the blank firing P-90s were loaned to them, not actually 'owned' by MGM / the corp. that is making SG-1.

Rabid Anti, well what would you expect from MacGyver? He never needed a gun lol

I actually recall an episode of MacGuyver where he did a "PSA" type announcement right after the show blathering about the danger of handguns/gun violence and the need for gun control. I don't remember if they had some dumb plot line supporting that propaganda, but I would imagine they did.

My favorite gun-related scene in Stargate SG-1 is in the episode where the team arms renegade Jaffa with FN P-90s. The Jaffa are hestitant to give up their beloved staff weapons, so Carter and Teal'c do a weapons demo. They hang up a log, let Teal'c blast it with the staff weapon to very little effect...and then Carter cuts loose with a fifty-round burst that shreds the log.

Then Jack holds up a staff weapon and says, "This is a weapon of terror. It is meant to intimidate the enemy."

Holding up a P-90: "This is a weapon of war. It is meant to kill the enemy."

I don't remember if they had some dumb plot line supporting that propaganda, but I would imagine they did.

One of the few McGuyvers I ever saw, but yes they did. Synopsis, best I can remember years later --

Dude and his son walk into a gun store, ask for a handgun. MacGuyver goes into this episode-long reverie about some childhood friend getting shot playing with a pistol they'd swiped from somebody's dad. When MacGuyver comes out of his dreamy-sequence, gun store dealer says no, thanks to some new law there's a waiting period and Dude can't walk out of the shop with a handgun. So he buys an AR-15 instead. (To show Just How Foolishly Permissive our gun laws are, of course).

Silly pap, but at 10 years old or so I remember being convinced.

Thats really a shame taht hes like that. All well i still like the character! I dont think hes a bad guy, just misguided, like alot of other folks, aside from the senators and such.
