(01/11/04 - HOUSTON) — A man who says he was being carjacked shot and killed the person trying to rob him.

Officers say two men were stopped in a truck on Keegans Ridge and Ruffino when they were approached by the suspected carjacker. The driver says the man demanded money and the truck.

The driver happened to have a concealed weapons license and a gun in the car. He pulled it out and shot the man allegedly trying to rob him. That man died at the scene.

Officers say a group of accomplices were waiting in a nearby car and took off. Police are still looking for them.

It really didnt say if he was really threatened or what..I dont think I would kill somebody if they wanted to steal my car.But maybe the guy had a knife or gun.I dont know but i wish the article had a little more info in it.If his life was in danger i think its a good thing.

I sorta agree with your comment, but the problem with that kind of thinking is that if you wait for someone to pull a gun on you (or even a knife for that matter) you've lost the opportunity to draw yours!

If somebody is "demanding money and my truck" from me (when I have a friend sitting right next to me even) I'm going to assume he has the will to back up his demands and protect myself.

Apparently the cops agreed.

The very act of carjacking is a threat to your life. Otherwise, why would you give up your car?

Would you just give up your car is someone casually walked up to you and said "Hey man, can I have your car?"

No, the thugs that do this know that the implication they present is that if you don't give up the car, you will be seriously hurt, or dead.

Score one for the good guys.

We don't know from this report whether the shooter's life was in danger.

We do know that a Grand Jury will decide if the shooting was justified. So the shooter may be looking at a bad situation all over again.
