That is a cool little pistol, I have always had a preference for 51 Navys, and 60 Armys. But I think a re eval is called for.

You shot 13 or 14 shots out of a new pistol and parts were falling off of the barrel ???

So much for the fine name of Uberti and their overpriced products !!!

Thanks for the heads up !!!

72Coupe,

My favorite statement from Samuel Clemmens is with respect to the pepperbox pistols becoming popular in his time.

I don't remember the exact quote, so the following is a para-phrase.

"The safest place to stand with respect to one of those pistols, is directly in front of the barrel !!!"

It seems bad workmanship and unreliable products were a headache in his day as well. So much for the mythical superiority of Italian reproduction guns.

LOL !!!

EW, I agree WRT to this reflecting poorly on Uberti's reputation. They did not do a good job of dovetailing the lug to the barrel. The other day I reattached the lug using Loctite Black Max rubber-filled cyanoacrylate glue, which should hold it. After I get a chance to shoot it again I'll post an update.

OTH, I've bought 3 Pietta Remingtons and 2 Euroarms Rogers & Spencer revolvers in the past couple years with no serious defects.

Original Revolver. The Uberti's have the same feel and shoot about the same.
The number is somewhere around 20,000 the other 19 or 20,000 being same frame "pocket navies."
Bloody Bill Anderson is supposed to have favored these.

Not the same gun, but a size comparisson between a Remington 1863 31 caliber 5 shot pocket pistol, 3-1/2" barrel and a Remington 1858 New Army 44 6 shot revolver, 7-1/2" barrel.

The photo is not a size comparison of the same pistol, but a size comparisson between similarly sized Remingtons.

The smaller pistol is a Pietta, 1863 31 Caliber, 5 Shot, 3-1/2" barrel Remington Pocket Pistol, the larger pistol is a Pietta, 1858 44 Caliber, 6 shot, 7-1/2" barrel Remington New Army.

I recently sold my Uberti 1862 .36 Pocket Police. I really liked that gun but I did not like the barrel lug falling off no matter how I tried to fix it (epoxy, shims, etc). I sold it with the understanding that it had a problem, and it had to be fixed.
