I just picked up a Uberti Cattleman. One of those deals that are too sheap to pass up. So this revolver has a couple of safety features I haven't seen before. First is the overlength base pin or cylinder pin that can be set back a notch t oblock the hammer. Got that figured out.

The other is a little gizmo on the front of the hammer arm that is supposed to be a hammer block. I can see how if it sticks out it would act as a hammer block but I don't see what's to make it stick out. Any body here know?

There is a rod running down from the gizmo to the hammer safety notch. When in "quarter cock" position, the sear pushes the rod up and tips the gizmo out to block the hammer from going all the way down.

Not to be counted on for safe carry with a round under the hammer. I would only do that with a transfer bar Ruger.

I have a Colt SAA copy that has the "long base pin safety" and found that it sometimes will go into the safety position while it's being fired due to recoil, thus disabling the gun.
I replaced the "safety device" with a standard length Colt base pin from Brownell's, and now all is well.

uberti gunfighter....

i have a 'gunfighter ' model....4 3/4" barrel....i do not know if i have the second 'safety' option....can you explain it alittle more....

i have the rod that acts as a safety... it does just that, tho i do not trust it with live rounds / hunting leaving it empty under the hammer
