Now that has BITE!

...

And IF I was to ever buy a hammer-less gun, that one would be it, cause like I said, it has BITE!! The looks..

LS ;)

Am I the only one who thinks that Glocks are great looking guns?

Any way there is another route, you could get a get a Glock and get it "prettied" up, and it would still cost less than "pretty" 1911.

I don't know where you live but i have the name and number of someone who specializes in customizing Glocks, anything from chroming slides to re-texturing the grip.

PM me if you want his name and number.

Ever meet a bland looking girl who had a fantastic personality, and over time of getting to know her, she looked better and better because of the great personality?

I know some buddies of mine who fell into that trap and they regret it now. All I can say is "I told you so" :)

Glocks are not ugly. They are just identical to eachother and the only way you can make them your own so to speak is to get it duracoated or some other paint. I personally do not like Glocks at all, right now. Not because I think they are bland, plainjane and cookie cutter but because I don't like the grip angle. One day when I have $500 to waste I am going to buy one and do my best to like that grip angle because they are, after all, a very very proven SD firearm.

Nothing at all wrong with liking the looks of your gun. It's funny how many people try and pretend that they don't care about the looks of the gun. Of course, it actually doesn't matter, but if you have a choice between two guns that perform alike, you are going to pick the one that looks cooler. I like my Sig with the wood grips- it's a sexy gun and also happens to shoot awesome. I'd much rather have a good looking gun than an ugly gun. There's plenty of good looking guns out there that perform as well as, or better than, an ugly glock. Basically every gun nowadays offers reliability and accuracy, so it usually comes down to how well it fits your hand. If you don't like the Glock, then don't buy it.

Here's one of my favorites: :scrutiny:

There's no doubt Glocks are one of the uglier guns around, but I feel like the 27 (26) is more (for some reason) proportionate then the full size glocks, if that helps... I think it looks great.

If someone wants the latest in fashion accessory then grab an Springfield XD.. or a nice Prada bag. Glocks do not fall in that category. And that abortion above is as hideous. !!!! LOL

My Glock is either at the range or in an IWB and a cover garment.

If it was a solid gold 1911 worked by JMB himself...it would still be in an IWB and covered by some sort of t-shirt...

Basically...who cares?

Any my neighbors have a Scion xB, which gets good mileage and haul's around their 3 kids. But it sure is ugly, they are so dumb for not buying a Porsche 911...

Glocks are good looking, in their own way.
Just like my Scion xB.
Call it a toaster. Call it a refrigerator on it's back. Call it an X-Box.
I still get 35 mpg hwy., and I really don't care what it looks like.
It does the job and does it well.
44,000 miles and not one problem.

Hmmmmmmmmm sounds like my Glock G21!!!!!!!:D

Sure, it's pretty, but, I'd rather take the money and put it into a 2nd Glock.

Pistols, like any tools, are designed to perform a certain set of tasks. Objects whose function dictates their form are inherently beautiful. Since they perform their task as well as any other pistol made, Glocks are beautiful.

I've never heard anyone describe another tool as "ugly". Are there any ugly hammers? Chainsaws? Arc-welders? Garage-door openers?

Cars are a different story, in some cases, because essentially your car is your clothing when you're on the road, and there is value in looking good, even at the expense of functionality. Unless you're going to be showing your gun to everyone, get the one that works the best.

P.S. Full disclosure: I own only one gun and it's a Glock 17.

You should check out some HKs if you think the Glock is ugly.
The P2000 or the brand new P30. Sure they cost more but their slides are machined more, and they are also just as reliable. Check out some picks of a HK P7m8 thats been Hard Chromed (they're called BBQ guns).I do have a USP 45 compact with a HC slide and it is beautiful. I practically stole it though, so I would have bought it if it wasn't.

I have bought a gun based on looks too. a non catalog Ruger Vaquero .357 Stainless Sheriff model with fake Ivory grips. Always wanted a SA and a .357, and it was too darned pretty:D

After seeing one of the atrocities know as a Nambu pistol and assorted Hi-Points, I can't call Glocks ugly. Not especially pleasing to the eye, but hardly ugly. Pretty efficient use of space, pretty reliable.
The Walther P99's a pretty nice gun, IMO. Seems a little more 'refined', lookswise, than the Glock. Could just be my own snobbery, though.

Not 9mm but the five-seven is starting to grow on me a bit. I saw one in the shop last week. Not as cool with 10 rd California mag but a nice looking gun nonetheless.

I can see where everyone is coming from as far as looks vs function but it's all up to the individual's preference. I kind of chuckle when I hear looks aren't important only function, if that's true which one of these would you pick since they both work almost the same?!

There are worse things in life than a pistol that is 100% reliable and more than combat accurate...I wouldn't worry too much about your ugly duckling that makes you look good when you shoot it ;)

Well, if I only owned guns for the boogie man then yeah, looks wouldn't mean a thing. You cannot compare my guns to a tool, they're not analgous. A tool only serves a single purpose. A gun is more than a tool to me. It is a collectors peice. It is something that will be handed down through the generations and cherished by them. My craftsman tool set? Not so much. I could care less if I accidentally dropped my hammer on some concrete and I think many of you would cringe if you did that to your guns. If all that mattered was functionality, then we wouldn't have collectors now would we?

All that said, I don't like how glocks feel in my hand (I agree with many people who say it's like holding a brick). I don't like how unsubstantial they feel in my hand. I hate their triggers and yes they aren't much to look at. So why not get a gun that looks great and functions just as well?

Give me a P226ST with wood grips. Thank you very much!

well if the ugly girl and the hot girl both "work almost the same" then aren't you already considering functionality? also, in accordance with my original point that functionality should matter and not just looks, if they both function the same then of course take the prettier gun. or girl.

and my god that miss usa is fine.

Let me ask you this: Why do you want to own a hand gun? Do you want it to look good or do you want it to shoot good?

What's wrong with having both?

I feel that there is a false dilemma being set up here. Glocks do work fine, but they are remarkably ugly. I don't see a problem with people wanting something that both works well and looks good. Saying things like
If your in it for looks I might suggest a different hobby.
is asinine, because wanting your firearms to look good to you is not a personality defect or a misplacement of priorities, so long as you understand that you shouldn't sacrifice function for form.

What's wrong/odd about considering the aesthetics of a gun? It's industrial design, which is about ideally melding the best in form and function. And just look at all the time and money that gets spent on aesthetic gun customizations. For those of you who apparently care exclusively for reliability and accuracy, there sure seems to be a lot of gun owners who also care about looks. I don't think they're some tiny misguided fringe.

And valuing aesthetics is hardly unique to guns. Bladed weapons have often been valued in part on appearances--ever see a fine Japanese sword?--so why not handguns?

I don't think anyone is saying that a practical firearm should be judged exclusively by looks, but just as with women (to continue the above posts), looks do matter. One would have to be pretty self-deluded or saintly to deny that :)

How many people just purchase a car to go "efficiently" from point A to point B? I'm sorry, but life is too short to own an ugly gun...there are so many, many to choose from and so little time. Ah well, some will say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder...and, in the land of the blind, the one eye man is King. I owned a glock...once.
