There are those who only wish to mess with black powder for the extra hunting season it allows. I ain't one of 'em. I rather like the traditional if I'm going to step away from my .308. However, I can certainly understand it. It's the same deal in archery. You think the Sioux had pullies on the ends of their bows before the white man gave 'em muskets?
Even a recurve is cheatin'! Of course, I can say that, since I don't bow hunt.
With BP, part of BP hunting for me is HUNTING, meaning getting closer. I'll leave the exterior ballistics program alone. I really don't care what the ballistic coefficient of my minie ball is. LOL! If it's over 100 yards, I need to get closer. That's what BP is all about to me. I'll chronograph the load just to fine out what sort of power I'm layin' down, pure curiosity since I know the gun will kill what I hit if I hit it right. The simplicity of it all is refreshing. No drop tables, range finder ain't really necessary. Don't even have to weigh charges, just dump in some charcoal, stick a bullet over it, and cap it.
Lotta BS for a guy that's yet to shoot anything, but paper with a smoke pole, eh? LOL!
