Saying she was wrong not too would be like telling the guy afraid of heights he's trash for not joining Airborne or the guy that can't swim he's responsible for a drowning because he didn't jump in and save the victim.
I'm not sure I follow, Selena. I would imagine that it's more like telling the guy who
can swim he's responsible for a drowning because he didn't jump in and save him.
Quote:It is the same as if a truck was heading toward me, and I refuse to move out of the way. I bare some responsiblity for getting hit.
So, in that absolute statement you are saying if you suffer hysterical paralysis from the sight of that truck coming, you share the blame because of an involutary mental state.
You misunderstood what Lewis said. He said "...if I
refuse to move..." while you responded with "...because of an
involuntary mental state..." One clearly states a voluntary choice of not moving, your interpretation is an involuntary one.
Of all the beasts only the human being commits rape.
Rape as in forced sexual contact to assert dominance and control? There are untold numbers of examples of other animals who do this, including forced homosexual sex for dominance and control. Humans are certainly not the only beasts who rape. If your definition of rape is not the same as mine, however, I would be interested in hearing it.
And I'm sorry if I seem like I'm picking on you, Selena, I'm not.
And anyone can feel free to correct me, but I believe Lewis' position to be similar to the idea that a person who goes river rafting, for example, is afraid of having his boat get a hole in it and sinking. He goes out and buys a patch for his boat and one day gets a hole in his boat. For whatever reason he throws the patch over the side, and his boat sinks. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this position, but I can conceivably see how some blame can be on the boat owner. Yes, it's not his fault because the rock which tore open his boat was hidden under the waves; yet, when it came time to take action to prevent the sinking, he did nothing.
As all analogies, this one is not perfect and perhaps too simplistic. I say this only to see if my understanding is accurate.
