Have them call their Hazmat center, they'll set them straight.

You could have mailed just the barrel, for that matter.
Many years ago UPS refused to ship ammo I sold on Gunbroker (Winchester Black Talons). I then rewrote that they were in the description as "brass trinkets" and they were shipped. I always thought it was weird that they'd deliver ammo to my front door but would not let me ship them. You can ship firearms, accessories and ammo through UPS no problem
People who don't believe that our 2nd amendment rights are being attacked are living in la la land. Case in point, the OP's story.
And why did you even tell the nosy old biddy what was in the box in the first place? None of her business. If she asks, tell her "marital aids".
I've had nothing but trouble from UPS Stores in the area. The main hub will ship and is relatively close by, but I usually just use USPS for long guns or parts.
No one seems to like the U.S. Postal Service, but they've always been a breeze to work with compared to the private couriers, at least IME.
Sorry to hear it though; shipping problems on top of firearm problems needing warranty work, sounds like my life!
