NH House Committee Rejects Eliminating Permit Requirement

Pay attention to this one folks:

Currently, only Alaska and Vermont have done away with the permits, and one House member testified that Vermont is having second thoughts.

"They strongly support the permit law," Rep. Alan Bemis said. "Legislators in the near future will get that changed around."

Gov. Craig Benson has said he supports the bill. The final vote in the House is expected to be very close.

Does anyone in NH, VT, or someone who knows VT politics know what Rep. Bemis is talking about? Is there something brewing up there? Vermont was the originator in lack of regulation of carry (Though Minnesota was a Vermont carry state until 1974, it was repealed and discretionary permits put in).

Driving up, if I see a gun between the seats, as an officer, all I can do is protect myself, not inquire if this is a qualified person," Rep. John Tholl said.

So John would start blazing away at the mere sight of a gun?

"The police often don't know who's got a gun now, unless there's probable cause or high suspicion," Rep. Elbert Bicknell said.

Yes, I'd say that this is standard right now. The only difference would be that more law abiding citizens would be packing if they eliminated the requirements.

The Reason Vermont Has "Vermont" Carry...

Is because their state supreme courts issued an ironclad pro RKBA ruling (or as ironclad as any court ruling will ever be) in the early 1900's when a city tried to institute handgun permits. Basically, they took their state constitution's RKBA clause as writ, and setup the golden precedent. (Does anyone have the case citation? I've lost it)

I'm sure some greenie/commie/leftist legislator has gun bigotry on his mind, but that doesn't mean he's gonna get what he wants.

Man what tired old stereotypes we have from people who don't bother to educate themselves on the matters.

New Hampshire - no Alaska Carry

It's disappointing, but expected, news that the New Hampshire CCW permit reform bill was ITL'd (Inexpedient to Legislate) - there were 17 retired law enforcement on the committee, and there's no way in hell they were going to give up their preferred, elite status when it comes to concealed carry no matter what the arguments.

As I understand the rules, this doesn't mean the bill is dead, but rather on life support.

Democrat, republican, that doesn't matter. What matters is their leaning, liberal or conservative. there are some republicans that lean to the left and are republicans in name only. There are some Democrats that lean right that are actually more intelligent than the rest in their party...or actually have morals. Liberals want to turn our country into a socialist wet dream. We can't let that happen.

SB454 has been voted down in the NH House Committee for Criminal Justice and Public Safety by a vote of 16-3. The bill will still go on to the House for a full vote; the expected House vote date is April 29.

If Vermont did not go on a banning spree in the 90's when the gun control movement was in full force, I doubt they would go on one now that the gun rights movement is making progress. Even if they are getting more and more socialized.

Currently, only Alaska and Vermont have done away with the permits

Again, "journalists" can't get the facts straight ... Alaska has done away with the premits but Vermont never had them.

Is it possible that the movement in Vermont toward permits isn't like the new Alaska permits?

Alaska still issues CCW permits even though they are not necessary within the state of Alaska, but if you want to travel to states with reciprocity with Alaska you'll need an Alaska permit ... currently if you're from Vermont you can't pack outside the state unless you get a permit for the state you're visiting ... and not all of them allow out of state residents to get permits.
