Wal-Mart Ammo Price

ETA, in a 2006 press release, Wal-Mart said
Quote:
In order for each of our stores to be a 'store of the community' and offer merchandise that is relevant to that specific community and customer base, we recently made a business decision no longer to offer firearms in approximately 1,000 of our locations.
According to news sources, "This decision is based on diminished customer relevancy and demand in these markets," said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Jolanda Stewart.

edit: they only have about 1200 stores nation wide.

You omitted the next paragraph from that press release, which reads:

"We began phasing out firearms sales in these stores earlier this year. In stores where there is sufficient demand, nothing will change."

Note that the "phasing out" statement applies to that particular set of stores, and not all stores. Demand is still good in my area, and there hasn't even been so much as a reduction in firearms/ammo inventory in my local Wal-Marts. There are also quite a few stores I've visited over the past year's huntin season in surrounding rural areas, and they're pretty well stocked with guns and ammo too.

I also don't see anything about them being "anti-gun" nor supporting the Brady Campaign...which would seem unlikely if they're still selling guns in ~20% of their U.S. stores.

at my local walmart we used to have lots of guns and ammo. then one day it was all gone, except for black powder rifles and a little less ammo. now, all they have is ammo, and not a huge variety. :banghead:

I don't see Walmart as anti-gun. Sure, probably not pro 2A but not Brady either.

Like all retail stores, they can't generally compete with on-line retailers. I've bought a lot of ammo online when other stores here were 10-20% higher priced.

It's too late to stock up and save money now. Just in the last year prices are up 50%+.

MrAnteater,
Checkout your local Meijer store. They do carry ammo up in MI do they not? Problem I've seen is that Meijer has less ammo variety than Wally World.

Yes Meijer's carries ammo. Not much of a selection and more expensive than Wal-Mart. We shop at Meijer quite a bit but I buy my WWB from Wal-Mart.

Even the newest walmart store in our area opened it's doors with rifles and shotguns for sale. Before the end of their first season the cabinets were removed and replaced with gadgetry. Their price for WWB 9mm was nearly $19 so I passed and ordered a case of Wolf instead.

Guys, I'm located in central Missouri. It looked like 100 but I didn't have my contacts in so it might have been 50. I'm pretty dang sure it was 100 though. The next time I'm in there I'll check again.

guess working for them and knowing their policies doesn't count for much...
Not when all of the available evidence says you're wrong. Sorry, but being and ex assistant manager from one store out of ~1,200 doesn't exactly give you the inside track on strategic corporate policy.

I buy ammo and shop at several WM's in the St Louis Metro area, and know most of the clerks by name. When I asked them about the phase-out they all shook their heads and said that as long as they're making enough money on the stuff, they'll sell guns and ammo 'til hell freezes over. It's all about profit margins.

For awhile I was finding the newer brass-cased 45 ACP ammo from CCI/Blazer in there for $11.95 a box/50, and I bought about a dozen boxes. Then one day it was $14.95, so I went to a different store, and it was the same. That's a 20% price jump, overnight. I know a lot of these price increases are BS, merchants taking advantage of those who don't or won't shop around. And I DO blame China, for driving up demand.

And if you think prices are bad NOW, in five years you'll REALLY be unhappy. :what:

Guns and ammo are still sold at our local Wal-Mart. I think I'll do the right thing and buy a 10/22 from there. I gave my son one when he was twelve; 10 years ago. Bought it at Wal-Mart. He has his own place now and wanted to take it home. It about broke my heart! I think I'll pick it up tomorrow: a brand new, synthetic, SS, 10/22 and a couple boxes of Federal 550's for the hell of it. When we stop supporting the store that sell guns and ammo...

I heard somewhere that Wal-Mart wil give a 10% discount for the purchase of 100 rounds. I don't have any idea if that is true but I intend to ask the manager of my local store if it is.
That amounts to a free box of 100 per 1000 bought

Certainly not that ive seen and was just there today, bought about 800 rounds Blazer Brass (both .45's and .40),I asked about 'rollback' prices and I was told ' not on ammunition".Now,in my area these WM's are always on an ammo 'hot sell' and in some cases cant keep ammo on 'some store shelves, still no discounts that ive seen at any given time.

:fire:

This is called INFLATION.

baloney. Inflation would not account for such large differences in such a short period of time. We would be in a severe depression if that were the reason. The time-span between prices here is only slightly over a year (at least locally).

ALL ammo is going up! I currently am a manager and I promise ya'll that our ammo will be cheaper than anyone else's in your town! If you have a complaint, take it up with the ammo manufacturers, not Wal Mart.

Well, I asked the manager at my local Wal-Mart if there really was a 10% discount for purchasing 1000 rounds. He said no, he had never even heard of that.

I was disappointed to hear that but it didn't stop me from buying 3 more boxes.

Still waiting on evidence that Wal Mart contributed to the Brady people (or any other anti-gun organization, for that matter). In the absence of same, you do your credibility a disservice, not to mention unjustly impugning the reputation of Wal Mart.

And I'm thinking about picking up an airsoft.

I used to be into airsoft before I could buy real guns. While BB's are cheap, the actual guns are not. I have had real handguns that were cheaper than the airsoft MK23 I had back in the day...which was a Wednesday.

My local Wal-Mart

... has 45 acp - Winchester 100 rds - for $29.88 per box. 40 S&W - Winchester 100 rds - for $26.99.

I am an ammo hoarding freak and have scoured the Internet for the best prices for brass casing ammo.... when I saw that the prices at my local Wal-Mart were just as competitive, if not a little better, I was very pleased. I picked up some more to add to the stock pile.

I normally frequent Natchez (the best Internet shop that I have found) and they have 50 rd boxes of 45 ACP for as low as $14.49 for brass casing ammo. I remember when almost a year ago, I was buying them for $8.99 per 50 rds... :(

I buy the Federal bulk pack 22 ammo at Wal-Mart, $11.97 for 550 rounds, can't beat that price. Plus, it shoots great in my Ruger 22/45.:D

I just thought I would stop in and check out prices at my local WM. I couldn't find any one working in sporting goods so I asked the kid in electronics if he could get ammo for me. He looked mortified as he replied "you cant buy bullets at Wal Mart" :what:
Anyway the guy in tires was more than helpful. Still no discount for bulk.

$18.42 for a 100 rd. box of win. 9mm and almost $30 for the same in .45 ACP. The last time the prices jumped about a month ago the 9mm went up $3 while the .45 only went up $0.30.

As for the stores carrying guns and ammo, every one of the stores here do. Only one store near me has CCW prohibited. That store I went in to talk to the manager to ask why and to let him know he lost a customer and everyone else I could tell. He did not seem to understand that those of us with CCW would be committing a felony if we carried while the BG carrying illegally would only be charged with a misdemeanor.
