...of AMMO!!!
Yes, it's true!! I went to my local Wallyworld to buy some ammo for my normal Saturday shoot only to find out that there wasn't any to be had!!
  • 9mm--- zero boxes
    .45ACP--- zero boxes
    .22RF--- zero boxes
    .32ACP--- five boxes

The clerk said that the distrubution center was also out too!!!

What's up with this??
Anybody here of anything going on???

I went to a Gander Mountain tonight and their ammo in some makes and caliber’s ( 9 & 40 ) was getting pretty slim , must be everybody is getting ready to try out their new guns and gift certificates.

I've seen it happen before. No biggie.

Heck, I was surprised to see my nearest Wal-mart was fully stocked on 9, .40, and .45 100-rnd white boxes today. First time I've seen them with all 3 in stock. I'm not buying so much anymore - Natchez is just too cheap, bless them!

I thought that was what condition ORANGE mean't????

All citizens report immediately to Walmart to stock on ammunition for any unseen impending doom...............or plinking, whatever comes first. I'm sure ole' Tom Ridge said that in one of his press conferances........or was that condition VIOLET or AMBER or CHARTROUS.......I get them confused ya know.

So I'm in Wally World and waiting for the guy behind the counter to finish with his customer so I can get some attention. Finally, he asks if he can help me and I ask him if he has any "Value Packs of .45 Ay Cee Pee". He responds "no, all I have is 45 Auto".

I'm frustrated so I just say "that's OK, I'll probably have to jam it in to make it fit but I'll give it a try". The previous customer swivels around and says "I thought they were the same thing". I answered him "they are, I was just avoiding making this guy look like an idiot".

The guy behind the counter still doesn't get it and just goes on with his business.

In the future you may have to pay a little closer attention to that answer if the .45 GAP ever make it to Wally World shelves.

Thankfully, I pass by 4 diff't Walmarts during my daily travels, one of them usually has what I need.

I have a bass pro shop near me (not a hole int he wall one either....100,000+ sq/foot) and they ALWAYS have white box ammo in either fmj or jhp for the 40, as well as cci i believe it is in the yellow boxes for 2$ more. It is probably a hair more expensive than most places but its a sure thing that they are gonna have it.

BTW i bought 7 boxes of the white tonight...gonna do a shoot tomorrow.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the low inventories on the part of both Wallyworld and the distributor has to do with taxes. Specifically, year-end inventory taxes. They try as much as possible to clean out the warehouse to reduce their taxes.

The Georgia Arms guy at the last gun show I went to (12 Dec in Columbia) was out of 45ACP 230gr JHPs for exactly that reason.

I recently got all the .45ACP out of two Wal-Marts and my dad picked a few boxes of 9mm.

Blame me if you want. ;-P

I'll second the notion that everyone is probably filling the mags of Christmas presents.

I went on Saturday to buy some shotgun shells and they had no less than 20 boxes each of .40 and .45 on the shelf. That's the most I have ever seen there. I would have bought a few boxes of .45 but hadn't budgeted for it and needed the shotgun shells more. Besides, I have plenty of .45 for a while.

LOL....I've been saying all along that everytime they raise the threat level up to orange, everyone here needs to promptly go to the store of their choice and buy 500 rounds of ammo. Wonder if that would get Herr Ridge's attention:evil:

I bought a CZ-83 in .380 ACP a few months back. I cleaned out all 3 Wally Worlds in town of all their .380 ACP ammo. I think I got 10 boxes total.
Sorry.
P.S. My CZ-83 ate all 500 rounds and never missed a beat.

P.P.S. Could it be that stores are cleaning out their inventory before the end of the year to avoid inventory taxes?

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion but I don't have a Glock and doubt that it will ever be in sufficient demand to warrant being stocked at Wally World. On the other hand, I've found that .45 Colt doesn't fit my mags very well so I stick to using it in my Ruger.

Didn't mean to imply that you did have a Glock, just that Wally World counter persons may not know the difference and hand you the wrong ammo.
In the beginning nobody thought the .40SW was going to be very big either and look at it now after not more than 10 years.

Heck, the counter monkey tried to hand me a box of .40S&W while I was picking up the rest of my ammo.

I wonder if folks who don't know anything about guns ever wonder why we're so 'picky' when it comes to ammo. ;-)

".45, .44, .40... it's only like .05 of a difference at most!"

My experience has been that Wally world stays wiped out of anything that sells. This provokes quite a bit of head scratching from me. You can easily boost your sales volume simply by ordering a few extra boxes to keep on hand between deliveries. I am sick to death of going there for something and having to substitute when they're out. You go shopping at Wal-mart, you have to take two lists with you - what you want and what you will settle for. My mom is so sick of it see refuses to go there for groceries anymore. See pays a little more at one of the other stores in town, but doesn't have to wait in line and virtually always gets her first brand choice. Additionally, service and attitude of employees are far superior. OK, rant mode off.

Oh, my latest experience. I just purchased a Taurus 431 .44 special. Sadly, the show I was at only had one person with .44 special ammo & that looked to be about 20 years old. I was real late from the show and my usual gunshop was closed. The shop was not open the next day, so I checked Wally world. I know, big mistake. Asked the guy for .44 specials. "Sure we have them!" Great. He hands me a box of .44 magnums :what: :banghead: "I asked for .44 specials." "These are the only .44s we have." Oh well, no sale. Should have known better. :barf:

The big new Wally World to the north of me had a pretty good selection of everything tonight except for Hydra-Shoks.

Since EVERYTHING you see in the store except milk and fresh bread comes from the W-M Distribution Center I doubt if they're worried about end of the year taxes. I am not sure when their fiscal year end is anyway and many states have a tax tear that's different from the calendar year.

The best time to buy ammo at wallyworld is 1:00am. Thats when all the new stock hits the floor to be stocked. Works everytime for me.:D
